Dir. of Regional Advancement - DC Metro
The College of William & Mary seeks applicants for the position of Director of Regional Advancement – DC Metro at the University Development Office.
The Director of Regional Advancement – DC Metro works closely with the Senior Director of Regional Advancement – DC Metro and coordinates the advancement strategy for Washington DC and the commuter communities of Northern Virginia & Maryland.
The Director of Regional Advancement serves as the leader and central executor for all development and engagement activity in the designated region (Metro-DC area)for William & Mary’s ongoing campaign and overall.
The Director is the market leader and point person and co-leader to plan, implement and supervise a regionally focused strategy for the College of William & Mary’s principal, major, planned and leadership gift prospects and donors in DC Metro.
The Director of Regional Advancement will have annually established aggressive personal goals to promote College and campaign priorities with the ultimate goal of securing the largest gifts for William & Mary.
Performance targets for the Director of Regional of Advancement – DC Metro will be based on the activity within a staged portfolio the goal of which is to develop into a robust major and principal gift portfolio by the end of year two of the incumbent’s tenure in the position. It is expected that s/he will be in a position to secure $2 – 3 million annually once the portfolio is established.
Must have the ability to travel extensively and be available to work evenings and weekends as needed.
It is expected that this position will be hired to live and work in the DC Metro area.
Bachelor’s degree is required and a Master’s degree is preferred
The Director should demonstrate substantive and progressively responsible knowledge in academic fundraising or a related field, with the strategic vision to develop and manage a regional team to harness the potential of the larger community toward engagement as well as philanthropic goals.
Demonstrated ability to identify, qualify and cultivate prospective major gift donors with the proven ability and desire to reach aggressive goals, to include the ability to solicit and secure significant private gifts, as well as:
Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills, with fluency in using persuasive language to promote visionary gift opportunities. Expertise in drafting and executing creative individual and region-wide donor and prospect strategies.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple and complex tasks and projects concurrently, with a high level of independence to work effectively and successfully off campus with limited supervision.
Strong work ethic and integrity, a commitment to teamwork and willingness to work collaboratively with colleagues from across the institution.
Proficiency in computers to include MS Office Suite (specifically Word, Excel).
Substantive and progressively responsible experience in academic fundraising or a related field is required. Strong knowledge and or experience working in the DC Metro region is highly desired. Experience in fundraising within higher education is a plus.
