Dir. of Regional Advancement – NYC Metro
The College of William & Mary seeks applicants for the position of Director of Regional Advancement – NYC Metro at the University Development Office.

The Director of Regional Advancement – NYC Metro works closely with the Managing Director of Regional Advancement – Northeast and coordinates the advancement strategy for New York City and the commuter communities on Long Island, New Jersey and Connecticut. S/he serves as the leader and central executor for all development and engagement activity in the designated region for William & Mary’s ongoing campaign and overall fundraising.

The Director is the market leader and point person and co-leader to plan, implement and supervise a regionally focused strategy for the College of William & Mary’s principal, major, planned and leadership gift prospects and donors in NYC Metro.

The Director of Regional Advancement will have annually established aggressive personal goals to promote College and campaign priorities with the ultimate goal of securing the largest gifts for William & Mary. Performance targets for the Director of Regional of Advancement – NYC Metro will be based on the activity within a staged portfolio the goal of which is to develop into a robust major and principal gift portfolio by the end of year two of the incumbent’s tenure in the position. It is expected that s/he will be in a position to secure $2 – 3 million annually once the portfolio is established.

Required Qualifications

The Director should demonstrate significant and progressively responsible experience in academic fundraising or a related field. S/he should have proven ability to identify, qualify and cultivate prospective major gift donors, expertise in drafting and executing creative individual and region-wide donor and prospect strategies, and the demonstrated ability to solicit and secure significant private gifts is expected, as well as:
Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
Fluency in using persuasive language to promote visionary gift opportunities;
Strong work ethic and integrity.
Commitment to teamwork and willingness to work collaboratively with colleagues from across the institution
Proven ability and desire to reach aggressive goals
Significant organizational skills and an ability to handle multiple and complex tasks and projects concurrently
High level of independence and ability to work effectively and successfully off-campus and without close supervision
Strategic vision to create and manage a regional team to harness the potential of the larger community toward engagement and philanthropic goals.
Must have the ability to travel extensively and be available to work evenings and weekends as needed. It is expected that this position will be hired to live and work in the NYC Metro area.

Preferred Qualifications:

Education – Bachelor’s degree required. A Master’s degree is preferred. Experience in higher education is preferred but not required. Previous work experience in and strong knowledge of the NYC Metro region is highly desired.
