Asst. Vice Provost & Asst. Dean for Administration (Req. 20177)

The Division of Undergraduate Education (DUE) at UCLA is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Vice Provost/Assistant Dean for Administration (AVP). As a senior member of DUE’s management team, the AVP reports directly to the Vice Provost and Dean of Undergraduate Education and has management oversight for DUE’s $38.6M budget, human resources for a staff complement of 1,000 (career, academic, and student/part time), information technology, space planning, and distributes $3.5M student scholarships, drawn from an endowment of roughly $56M. The AVP has six direct reports with an additional 23 staff members in the AVP’s immediate administrative purview.

The Division of Undergraduate Education serves as the campus-wide advocate for undergraduate education at UCLA, providing leadership to achieve the highest quality of teaching and learning; it also promotes academic success for UCLA's diverse undergraduate population, ensuring options for all students to engage in a challenging array of educational opportunities, from foundational general education courses to advanced research and honors projects, and co-curricular programs and events.

The ideal candidate will bring expertise in financial and academic management and strategic planning, on the one hand, and dedication to the mission of UCLA and DUE, on the other. Experience managing change within a large and complex organization with multiple levels of accountability is highly desirable.

The successful applicant will possess strong interpersonal and written communication skills, and will be able to interact effectively and collaboratively with diverse groups and individuals including staff, faculty, deans, directors, university leaders, students, and the community stakeholders. She or he will be a strategically oriented, hands-on leader who is comfortable in a collaborative environment. The AVP will have demonstrated success in project management and financial modeling, as well as demonstrated ability in strategic planning and implementation.

We especially invite applications from administrative professionals who demonstrate experience within higher education or similarly complex and large organizations. An advanced degree is strongly preferred. Our goal is to hire an individual who demonstrates leadership and conveys a strong sense of ethical standards that will inspire confidence and motivation in others to adhere to the internal controls for the safeguarding of university assets. We are looking to add an individual to our team who has a proven ability to act with political sensitivity and who employs an inclusive approach to problem solving, developing multiple models for consideration.
