CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

Reporting to the Director of the Center for Student Accessibility, the Assistant Director for Assistive Technology will work with the Director to ensure the Center provides appropriate services for the target population. In addition, he/she will be responsible for the following:

  • Assesses adaptive technology needs of students. Provides technical support and training for the various hardware and software involved in the delivery of support services, including Braille embosser, speech synthesizers, digital voice recording devices, CCTV, high speed scanners, Kurzweil 1000 and 3000, JAWS, Zoomtext, CART, C-Print, remote captioning, etc.
  • Assesses programs and services to enhance student success and the student experience.
  • Works with the Director and the office staff to assess and report on existing programs.
  • Makes recommendations for appropriate and cost effective systems to enhance student access.
  • Provides leadership and expertise in electronic access issues related to web and other electronic resources.
  • Assists with the creation of accessible websites.
  • Oversees the Multimedia Resource Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
  • Provides alternate text for eligible students with disabilities.
  • Serve as liaison to the Library Services and Campus Information Technology Department.
  • Works with faculty, staff, and students to determine technological interventions, integration, and processes that assist in maintaining an accessible learning environment.
  • Writes comprehensive reports and other communications as required, pertaining to the unit and services offered.
  • Supervises a part-time staff in the delivery of technological and interpretive services to students.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree and four years' related experience required.


OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Master's Degree in Computer Science, Rehabilitation Technology, Rehabilitation Engineering, Rehabilitation Counseling, Special Education, or related strongly preferred. Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) certification preferred. Thorough knowledge of policies, procedures, and legal requirements such as Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act, ADA, ADAAA, and Section 508 highly desired.


COMPENSATION

Commensurate with experience.
