GENERAL DUTIES


Administers and supervises financial aid programs and operations.

  • Reviews contracts, disbursements, tuition and fees; validates student eligibility for various programs
  • Administers, monitors and troubleshoots CUNY financial aid systems as well as Federal and NY State systems in order to ensure integrity of student databases and timely and accurate delivery of funds
  • Assists CUNY staff, applicants, and students/families with advice on financial aid issues and eligibility
  • May review and reconcile student payroll processing
  • Represents the Financial Aid function at Admissions events; works with academic departments as well as Bursar, Registrar, Admissions and Computing offices to assure staff understand and implement financial aid processes correctly
  • Assists in the development and evaluation of Admissions processes
  • Prepares documentation, instructions, and materials in various media to support financial aid activities

The College of Staten Island (CSI) is one of 11 senior colleges of the City University of New York and the only public college on Staten Island. CSI offers over 80 undergraduate programs, 24 graduate and, through the CUNY Graduate Center, participates in 7 doctoral programs. The College enrolls approximately 14,000 students and employs nearly 2,000 faculty and staff. Located on a 204-acre park-like campus that is minutes away from Manhattan, the CSI campus is the largest collegiate site in NYC. Fourteen neo-Georgian style buildings house 300 classrooms, laboratories, instructional spaces, and study lounges, as well as department, faculty, and program offices. CSI boasts an advanced, networked infrastructure and is developing a high performance computational center that will support technology-based research, teaching, and learning throughout CUNY. Reporting to the Financial Aid Director, the Pell Grant Specialist is responsible for the following:

  • Validates students' eligibility for PELL Grants and all other Title IV aid; reviews aid disbursements to ensure aid is fully disbursed.
  • Administers, monitors, and troubleshoots CUNY's processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of FAFSA data and student aid disbursements.
  • Assists with the implementation and management of CUNYFirst (Oracle PeopleSoft) as related to the Financial Aid Department.
  • Assists CUNY staff, applicants, and students/families with advice on financial aid issues and eligibility.
  • Reviews and reconciles student eligibility with student payroll data.
  • Works closely with the Enrollment Division Offices as well as other departmental operations to determine aid eligibility.
  • Represents the Financial Aid Office at Admissions events and on CUNY and College committees. Works with academic departments as well as Bursar, Registrar, Admissions, and Computing offices to assure staff understand and implement financial aid processes correctly.
  • Assists in the development and evaluation of Admissions processes.
  • Prepares documentation, instructions, and materials in various media to support financial aid activities.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree and four years' related experience required.



OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as strong multi-tasking skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, with an emphasis on MS Access and MS Excel; PeopleSoft preferred
  • Ability to work extended evening and weekend hours as needed by the department



COMPENSATION

Commensurate with experience.
