FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT :



The Department of Natural Sciences, LaGuardia Community College, seeks to fill a tenure-track faculty vacancy in Biology at the Assistant Professor level. The successful candidate will be a strongly motivated and enthusiastic individual with a firm commitment to excellence in teaching and research. He or she will be required to teach undergraduate courses in one or more of the following areas: General Biology, Human Anatomy & Physiology, and Microbiology. Preference will be given to those candidates who have experience teaching Human Anatomy & Physiology at the college level. The appointee will be expected to participate in developing new courses and improving existing curricula to meet the growing needs of the department and the college. Development of a viable research program and grant writing are expected. Student mentoring is an important component of the duties of faculty and successful candidates will be required to develop research programs that will involve students. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in departmental, college-wide and university-wide initiatives. LaGuardia emphasizes excellent teaching in a student-focused environment: candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and the ability to work with a diverse population. Performs teaching, research and guidance duties in area(s) of expertise. QUALIFICATIONS :
The successful candidate must have an earned Ph.D. in Biology or Science Education with excellent teaching credentials. Teaching experience is also required, preferably at the college level. Excellent communication skills as well as a record of ongoing scholarly achievement are important. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, interest in productive scholarship or creative achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
