Job Summary
This senior position provides leadership and support across the Health Sciences Library and Informatics Center organization (HSLIC), utilizing a matrix management approach. HSLIC is a blended library/technology organization consisting of Library and Educational Services, Technology Support, Biomedical Informatics, Business Services, Strategic and Project Planning Office, and the HSC Information Security Office. The position reports to and serves as the designee, as necessary, for the HSLIC Executive Director/CIO for Administration and Academic Systems and provides assistance as needed to managers across HSLIC. The responsibilities of this position include assuming program leadership in:

  • Service design
  • Customer relationships
  • Assessment
  • Process improvement across HSLIC services
  • HSLIC faculty and staff professional development


The successful candidate will be expected to facilitate developing a research portfolio for HSLIC and serve as principal investigator for both library- and technology-related grants/contracts as well as serve as a collaborator on interdisciplinary projects with academic units outside HSLIC.

This is a faculty position within HSLIC with a primary academic appointment in the UNM School of Medicine. Duties will also include those expected of all HSLIC faculty, including envoy assignment, educational activities, committee service, strategic planning team work, participation in the library’s data management planning services, and various scholarly activities.

Appointment is posted as non-tenure track, Lecturer, open rank, to be determined based on qualifications; it is anticipated that appointment will be at the rank of Lecturer III. Salary range: $100,000 - $115,000 based upon qualifications.

Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Develops and oversees HSLIC’s customer relationship management program, including intake and prioritization of requests for major new service.
2. Serves as ITIL program manager, developing and managing HSLIC’s portfolio of library and IT services, and serves as co-chair of the HSC’s ITSM council (Information Technology Service Management).
3. Works with HSLIC managers to develop program assessments, and monitor quality through various mechanisms, including customer satisfaction surveys, chairing HSLIC’s Assessment Committee.
4. Chairs HSLIC’s Envoy Committee, comprised of departmental liaisons and the HSLIC Disaster Committee that improves HSLIC’s disaster preparedness and response processes.
5. Plans and develops professional development opportunities for HSLIC faculty and staff.
6. Regularly submits proposals for extramural grants/contracts based on annual goals and participates on interprofessional proposals, and develops proposals for new fund development mechanisms.
7. Participates as member of Executive Committee, Operations Management Team, and TECHS Managers meeting in policy/procedure development, operational integration across units, and strategic planning.
8. Participate as a HSLIC faculty member in committee service, strategic planning initiatives, library envoy service and scholarly activities
9. Serves as designee, as needed, for HSLIC Executive Director/CIO for Administration and Academic Systems.

Qualifications:
Required/Minimum:

  • Graduate degree in computer sciences, information science, engineering, management, or library science from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited institution
  • Five years of relevant experience


Preferred:

  • Experience as a manager in a matrix organization structure responsible for project management
  • Experience in an academic or health sciences setting with provision and evaluation of services relevant to this position
  • Experience working with ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) or other CQI bestpractices
  • Familiarity with customer relationship management processes, assessment, evaluation and process improvement strategies
  • Demonstrated technical skills with IT, especially educational technologies
  • Knowledge of emerging IT, library or educational technologies and their application in a health sciences and/or academic environment
  • Experience working as a team member in a complex, rapidly changing, interdisciplinary serviceoriented environment
  • Experience relevant to functioning as a faculty member in the areas of teaching, scholarship (e.g., publications or presentations), and research (proposal development and implementation, grant or contract funding)
  • Excellent written communication skills as demonstrated in the required writing sample and verbal skills as documented in the cover letter and interviews
  • Subject knowledge in the health or basic sciences
