Biomedical Informatics Faculty Position

The University of New Mexico Health Sciences Library and Informatics Center (UNM HSLIC) is seeking a new biomedical informatics faculty member at the assistant, associate, or full professor level.
The candidate will be expected to support HSLIC’s new eScience (data management) initiative by providing input to the development of organizational data standards and policies that will foster better data management practices. The candidate will also be expected to support HSLIC’s BMI fellowship curriculum by providing mentoring and research project support of BMI fellows. In addition to general HSLIC faculty member duties, the candidate will be expected to teach in the BMI curriculum for the HSC Clinical and Translational Science Center (UNM’s CTSA organization) as well as in other venues throughout the HSC.
The qualified candidate will be expected to develop an extramurally funded research portfolio in BMI (clinical or public health informatics) partnering with investigators both at UNM and other institutions to form novel interdisciplinary collaborations that leverage HSLIC’s unique resources and faculty. The qualified candidate will have a terminal doctoral degree along with formal training in BMI with research (or equivalent experience).
This faculty position is in the HSLIC BMI Research, Training and Scholarship (BioMRTS) unit and reports to the BioMRTS Director. It is a 12-month, full-time, tenure track position with an academic appointment in the UNM School of Medicine. In addition to the above, duties include those expected of all HSLIC faculty, including envoy assignment, data curation, educational activities, committee service, strategic planning team work and scholarly activities.

This is a full-time, benefits eligible position. The faculty will be expected to develop a portfolio of extramurally funded research and an appropriate start up package will be provided for the first three years. Appointment is posted as open rank, to be determined based on qualifications. Salary range: $93,000 - $160,000 based upon prior experience, academic rank, and qualifications.
• Terminal doctoral degree in the biosciences (e.g. MD, PhD)
• Experience as a biomedically trained investigator with formal training in biomedical informatics and/or equivalent experience
• A research, publication and grant funding record appropriate for academic rank
• Excellent writing skills with extramural grant writing skills in particular
• Expertise with standardized terminologies and their application for research databases
• Demonstrated awareness of both national and international trends and developments with research data curation and management
• Expertise in problem solving, analytical and organizational skills
• Experience teaching biomedical informatics at the post-doc/fellowship level
• Knowledge of data standards
