Director of First Year Experience
SUMMARY:
The Director of First Year Experience (FYE) is responsible for the continuing development, implementation and evaluation of its programs to orient first year students to college life in general and Siena Heights University in particular. This retention focused program will provide support, knowledge and skill to other university programs on the main Adrian campus regarding its first time in college freshmen students.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide leadership and campus level coordination to all partners involved in the development and implementation of programs, courses, events, and activities related to the FYE. Collaborate with the faculty, staff, and administration to build institutional awareness, support program assessment efforts, and provide consultation for campus partners regarding central issues affecting undergraduate student success including retention and persistence of its first time in college freshmen students. Oversee recruitment, selection, evaluation, and training for FYE instructors. Collaborate with Liberal Arts committee on the selection of first year common read. Recruit, select, train, supervise and evaluate the First Year Experience Peer Mentors. Coordinate, supervise and evaluate the teaching of a three credit hour Introduction to Leadership and Mentoring course designed to aid students in learning about their own leadership. Maintain and enhance early intervention strategies for first year in college freshmen students through extensive interaction and collaboration within the Division of Student Achievement and Academic Success, including assisting with students admitted “on conditional” status. Develop, implement, and assess the efficacy of various first-year student programs, publications, social media, and initiatives. Develop and monitor annual budget for curricular and co-curricular FYE programs. Co-Management to develop and coordinate an integrated Welcome Week program with the Director of Student Engagement for the university community, including the training of student O-Team leaders. Assist in the coordination of SOAR orientation days. Instruct a minimum of one section of the First Year Experience course. Serve on university committees that support the efforts of the division of Student Achievement and Academic Success. All other duties as assigned by supervisor.

REQUIREMENTS:
Master’s degree in an appropriately related Higher Education field required. Minimum of three to five years in higher education with direct experience in the development and implementation of FYE curriculum and programs, orientation programs, and academic support services. Excellent interpersonal relationship, communication, and social media skills. Must have a genuine desire and ability to work with and to relate with students. Experience in professional staff supervision, budgeting, and programing. Ability to work in collaboration with various representatives from university departments and the community.
