Assistant Professor of Cost Accounting or Accounting Information Systems – Tenure Track
John Carroll University

John Carroll University’s John M. and Mary Jo Boler School of Business (BSOB) invites applications for a tenure track position in the Department of Accountancy at the assistant professor level beginning Fall, 2015. We are only interested in people with one of the following specialties: Cost Accounting or Accounting Information Systems. Our AIS course has a heavy focus on internal controls. Accordingly, people with a background or sub-specialty in Auditing will be considered for the AIS position; individuals with a specialty in information systems will not.

The minimum degree requirement is a PHD or DBA (advanced ABD considered) with a major in accounting from an AACSB accredited program. CPA certification and practical experience are preferred but not required. Faculty who teach on a research load teach nine hours per semester (3 classes, usually one per year at the graduate level) and serve as academic advisors to undergraduates (advising responsibility is phased in). Class sizes generally vary between 20-30 students.

John Carroll University is a Catholic, Jesuit University with approximately 4,000 students. The Boler School of Business is AACSB accredited for both its undergraduate and graduate programs and has separate AACSB accreditation for its Accountancy program. The Boler School offers two graduate degree programs (MBA and MS in Accountancy), and eight undergraduate majors. Three academic departments service more than 400 undergraduates (juniors and seniors) and 100 graduate students. The Boler School’s Accountancy faculty currently has five full-time, tenured/tenure track faculty and two executives in residence.

The Boler School’s core strength is developing outstanding leaders who have confidence, integrity and a global vision. This is accomplished within a rigorous and challenging, yet compassionate, learning environment. One of the distinguishing characteristics of the Boler School is the sense of community between students and faculty, and the alumni base in the business community is exceptionally strong and very supportive of the University and School.
