Sr Pollution Prevention Engineer
A comprehensive technology transfer and development center whose goal is to make New York State more sustainable for workers, the public, the environment and the economy by providing P2 programs and services across the state. Offers on-site technical assistance, research and development, technology transfer, and education to assist companies in decreasing - and in some cases eliminating - air pollution and solid waste as well as reducing the use of hazardous materials. Also focuses on the acceleration of green technologies and greening of the supply chain.

The Senior P2 Engineer will provide hands-on direct assistance to a broad array of NYS companies. This may include assessing manufacturing processes to identify areas of improvement, performing material & energy balances to identify baseline metrics, researching and identifying environmentally preferable & cost-effective alternatives, and assisting companies in meeting sustainability certifications/scorecards
The Senior P2 Engineer will serve as project manager managing multiple, concurrent projects, as well as mentoring junior staff or students on the project team. The Senior P2 Engineer will develop project proposals, final technical reports, trade articles, and case studies. He/she will also present project results to clients at all levels of the organization as well as develop and present P2 training and best practices workshops to stakeholders. The Senior P2 Engineer will also be responsible for assisting the team in searching for, applying and writing federal & state grant proposals. Therefore, excellent communication, writing and presentation skills are a requirement for this position. The Senior P2 Engineer will perform other tasks in support of the Institute as requested by the Director, which may include development of P2 assessment tools, research and the development and implementation of P2 priority setting and performance tracking programs to maximize program
Bachelor’s degree (in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Management, or related field; M.S. preferred.
Minimum of five years of related work experience, with experience in process improvement/efficiency, green chemistry/alternative materials, and/or the environmental/pollution prevention (P2) field preferred.
◾Project management experience including budget and time management
◾Use of quality, Lean or Six Sigma tools preferred
◾Strong presentation skills
◾Training experience preferred
◾Ideal candidate will be self-directed, with very strong oral and written communication skills. ◾Experience in writing proposals (federal, state and project oriented) and detailed final reports for industrial clients preferred

◾Experience or working knowledge in some of the following areas preferred: ◾Sustainable Supply Chain
◾Green technology and engineering, design for the environment, systems analysis, life-cycle assessment
◾Manufacturing environment
◾Environmental assessments, technical assistance and training, pollution prevention technologies/approaches
Preferred:
◾Lean Six Sigma knowledge
◾Experience leading a team and/or managing staff
