Dominican University invites inquiries, nominations, and applications for the position of provost and vice president of academic affairs. Rooted in the Sinsinawa Dominican tradition, Dominican University is a comprehensive institution with a strong liberal arts and sciences tradition. Dominican has experienced dynamic change in programs and organization, as well as stability of leadership and core values. The campus is located in the Chicago area, and academic programs are offered through the Rosary College of Arts and Sciences, the Brennan School of Business, the School of Education, the Graduate School of Library and Information Science, the Graduate School of Social Work, and the School for Continuing and Professional Studies. The University has an operating budget of $87 million and an endowment of $30 million. In the context of a well developed strategic plan, Dominican continues to move aggressively to provide high quality educational programs to new and existing audiences.

Dominican University is a Catholic university of 3500 students; it is one of only three private universities in Illinois designated as a Hispanic serving institution. Dominican governance structures are collaborative, but the provost will deal most directly with deans to define new academic directions, restructure schools and programs, advance sponsored research, and enhance faculty teaching, scholarship and development. The new provost will provide thoughtful and energetic academic leadership and will also contribute to planning for the university’s future needs. Two key initiatives include the continuing effort to build an increasingly diverse campus and expanding our offerings in health sciences.

Dominican seeks candidates who demonstrate a history of scholarship, collaborative leadership, and significant administrative experience that includes data-driven analysis and planning. A doctorate, significant academic leadership experience, and the ability to be granted tenure as a faculty member are required. The provost should be entrepreneurial, innovative, and also have experience supervising faculty. Candidates must also demonstrate an appreciation for, and commitment to, the university’s Caritas and Veritas mission.
