Dean of the School of Management
New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) seeks applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the School of Management (SOM). The School is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), with undergraduate and graduate programs (including Bachelor of Science in Business, Master of Science in Management, and MBA). At present the SOM has approximately 700 students and thirty (30) faculty and teaching staff.

In line with NJIT's science and technology focus, the SOM conducts management research and education with an emphasis on managing technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship. Being part of a polytechnic university, with programs in engineering and architecture, the SOM has opportunities to distinguish itself and offer unique and focused study plans. The school is well connected to businesses and industry enterprises in the greater New York region, and has close working relationship with NJIT's Enterprise Development Center, one of the largest business incubators in the country. These assets provide faculty and students with a real world learning lab, and with wide-ranging opportunities for collaboration and experimentation.

Responsibilities: The Dean serves as the chief academic officer of the School of Management. This is a leadership position with primary responsibility for advancing the school as a nationally recognized leader in technology-oriented management education and research. The Dean is a senior academic officer who reports to the Provost, and works closely with the Provost, President, and other senior officers to advance the university's mission. Specific responsibilities include strategic planning, program evaluation and development, corporate outreach, fund raising leadership to attract resources necessary to sustain and enhance the school, and recruitment and selection of new faculty. The Dean manages the school's finances and budget and leads the SOM's marketing. It is expected that s/he would initiate and lead interdisciplinary education and research initiatives, and make the school a leader in the integration of business with science, engineering and design. The new Dean will be expected to help the SOM chart its course for the next decade in line with the university's Vision 2020 strategic plan (http://www.njit.edu/provost/strategicplan).

Qualifications: We seek an individual who is an innovator and change agent, and who would span disciplinary boundaries to build alliances and partnerships between the SOM and the University's Schools, Institutes, Centers, as well as outside stakeholders. The successful candidate will be a dynamic individual with a demonstrated ability to advance effective teaching and learning outcomes and implement innovative solutions to the challenges facing management and higher education today. In addition, candidates must possess experience and academic credentials that merit appointment as a full professor with tenure in the SOM. They should have a record of increasing administrative responsibility with tangible accomplishments. A research record and understanding of research administration in academic institutions are essential to the success of the future Dean, and so are excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Prior experience with AACSB accreditation procedures would be considered advantageous, as would past involvement with Executive MBA programs.

Interested candidates should send a letter of application expressing interest and summarizing the candidate's qualification for the position, a vita/resume, and a list of at least five references including names, titles, current telephone numbers and e-mail addresses. Application materials must be submitted electronically at https://njit.jobs, posting number 602418. Only complete applications will be considered. Review of qualified applications will begin on December 1, 2014 and will continue until the position is filled.
