The Position:
The Director of Counseling and Psychological Services is responsible for directing the overall operation of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) and providing counseling, crisis intervention, consultation, and mental health outreach services to enhance the psychological and emotional welfare of PEA students.

Key Accountabilities:

Clinical:
• Provide clinical supervision to CAPS counselors.
• Provide individual psychotherapy to students currently attending the Academy.
• Provide crisis intervention with 24-hour on-call responsibilities shared with other members of CAPS.
• Lead student support/therapy groups as indicated.
• Advise student groups as requested.
• Participate in weekly clinical team meetings with Health Services Staff, consulting psychiatrist, ASAP and Deans-Health team (bi weekly).
• Consult with faculty, staff and parents about student mental health concerns, as needed, within the limits of the law and the ethical parameter of confidentiality.
• Consult and coordinate with Dean's office regarding student medical leaves and relevant student mental health concerns.
• Obtain supervision and consultation from the school's consulting psychiatrist.

Educational:
• Provide workshops and consultation regarding child and adolescent development, mental health, leadership and consultation for a variety of constituents including students, parents, faculty and staff.
• Create and disseminate educational content on the management of adolescents, developmental tasks, coping with loss and recognizing signs of mental illness.
• Maintain professional licensure as required by the New Hampshire Board of Mental Health. This includes travel to continuing education workshops to earn CEU’s required for licensure.
• Abide by professional code of ethics. As dictated by either APA or NASW.

Administrative:
• Maintain records on all clinical sessions including documentation in medical charts as appropriate, this will include the adoption and implementation of electronic medical records.
• Maintain individual utilization statistics to contribute to CAPS records and statistics. Gather statistics for other constituents, as requested.
• Manage referrals for CAPS.
• Develop counseling budget with the Medical Director and his/her designees.
• Develop and maintain liaisons with community mental health resources.
• Assist Medical Director and other members of Health Services staff in the development of health programs, policies and protocols.
• Complete annual evaluation/assessments of counseling staff.
• Gather and maintain statistics on counseling department.
• Serve on faculty committees as required (e.g. Health and Wellness Council).
• Participate in bi-annual QA meetings.

Education and Experience:
• LICSW, PhD. Or PsyD
• Licensed or license eligible in NH.
• Minimum 5 years’ post-masters clinical work.
• Minimum 2 years’ clinical supervisory experience.
• Experience with adolescent issues including eating disorders, anxiety, depression and substance abuse preferred.
• Experience working with adolescents in an educational setting preferred.

• Demonstrated ability to work with students by building trust and credibility.
• Excellent analytical and problem solving skills as well as a strong customer focus.
• A strict adherence to confidential policies is required.
• Ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously.
• Proficient in MS Office.
• Willingness and ability to learn additional applications as needed.
• High degree of organizational skills with the ability to be flexible and multi-task with accuracy.
• Ability to follow verbal and written directions, maintain a professional demeanor and restraint at all times, including stressful situations.
