Visiting Assistant Professor of Media Arts

Antioch College seeks a broadly trained media artist for a Visiting Assistant Professor position in Media Arts, starting August 20, 2018. This position lasts ten months (three academic quarters), from August 2018 through June 2019. Candidates must have an advanced degree in art practice: Master’s degree (MA or MFA), 18 semester-credits towards a PhD, or a PhD, and college teaching experience is preferred. The preferred primary focus is documentary production. The ability to teach a wide range of courses within media arts is highly desired, and these offerings contribute to the College’s mission, general education program, and robust self-designed majors. Important skills include video production and the ability to collaborate on curriculum with our local NPR radio station (WYSO) to provide students with opportunities for audio production. The successful candidate will provide technical support and artistic guidance on student media productions, and effectively collaborate with other faculty, students, and staff. The ability to teach about culturally diverse artists and art practices, as well as experience working with a diverse student body, is essential.

The teaching load for this position is six courses for the 2018-2019 academic year (2-2-2 on the quarter system), with some flexibility in the load distribution by offering optional one-month block courses in the November-December term. Courses will be selected based on the hired candidate’s abilities and experience, and may include video production, animation, radio production, and / or courses focused on experimental, documentary or narrative fiction. These courses could also include media history, including film, photography, or animation history, given relevant knowledge and experience. The successful candidate will also be expected to mentor students who are undertaking their senior projects and contribute to delivering the general education curriculum.
