Director of Annual Giving

Under the direction of the Assistant Vice President for Advancement and Alumni Engagement, the Director of Annual Giving is responsible for planning, directing and implementing all aspects of the University's Annual Giving program. Specific responsibilities include managing the annual giving team, overseeing the development and implementation of all direct marketing strategies, including, but not limited to, direct mail, telemarketing, and e-marketing designed to increase philanthropic giving and the base of support for the University. In addition, this position is charged with managing, cultivating and soliciting a portfolio of approximately 175-200 prospects locally and regionally.
Description of Duties and Responsibilities:
• Establishes short- and long-range goals for growing the base of donors while retaining existing donors from the following segments: alumni, parents, University Family, students and friends.
• Leads, plans and implements strategies to achieve yearly fundraising and participation goals.
• Oversees direct mail-marketing (inclusive of crowdfunding) and telemarketing campaigns; analyzes results.
• Manages vendor relationships and RFPs related to direct mail, telemarketing, and crowdfunding.
• Works closely with members of the Alumni Engagement and Leadership Gifts teams as well as Advancement Operations and University Communications.
• Plays a critical role in prospect pipeline development, managing and soliciting gifts from a portfolio of approximately175-200 prospects, largely comprised of donors giving $250+ annually, with an expectation of five (5) visits per month. Identifying, qualifying and "passing off" prospects to the Leadership Giving team is expected.
• Manages and mentors the annual giving team.
• Oversees Reunion Giving with key classes in collaboration with Alumni Engagement and Leadership and Planned Giving.
• In concert with Alumni Engagement, creates plans to educate and engage students from freshman through senior year on philanthropy culminating in the Senior Class Gift.
• Tracks budget expenditures and projections for the Office of Annual Giving.
• Creatively thanks donors throughout the year in order to increase retention, collaborating with Stewardship to ensure strategic communication to donor base.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Assistant Vice President and/or Vice President for Advancement and External Affairs.
Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree is required with a Master's degree preferred and at least 7 years of development or comparable experience, preferably with a background in marketing, communications or sales. Driver’s license and personal vehicle is required, as well as a willingness to travel and work outside of normal business hours. Capital campaign experience is a plus. In addition to these qualifications, because of the nature of the position, certain personal qualities are key to the success of the individual in this role. Unparalleled personal integrity and respect for confidentiality, prudence, and discretion and ability to inspire and engender a passion for Saint Peter's University and the Jesuit mission required. Successful candidates much demonstrate creativity, high energy, the ability to stay abreast of trends in fundraising, higher education and cutting-edge marketing practices while managing multiple projects. Analyzing data is essential. Strong oral and written communication skills are required. Knowledge of Raiser's Edge/Blackbaud products is a plus.
