(Job #18-40) Network Analyst-12-Career, Data Network Analyst, $4,372-10,478/month. Appointments will be determined by education and experience. Expected starting salary range is between $5,000-$6,000/month. This is a full-time, benefited, 12-month, exempt position with a one-year probationary period in Information Technology Services.

The Job: This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic and creative environment. The successful candidate will become part of a small, highly skilled team with responsibility for managing a campus-wide wired and wireless network. Over the next year we will be doing some exciting proof of concept mesh networking work and migrating VPN services to our Palo Alto firewalls. Duties include:

• Troubleshooting wireless throughput problems that are slowing down classroom video streaming;

• Working with a cross-functional team of specialists to find the best way to roll out a new service to the campus;

• Adding wired or wireless network capacity to buildings;

• Using network management tools to investigate security incidences; and

• Configuring firewalls to allow traffic to pass.

Minimum Qualifications: A basic foundation of knowledge and skills in technical, information network systems, including a working knowledge of telecommunications and transmission technologies, including network architecture, topologies, protocols, programming applications, and interfaces appropriate to the defined work area and assignments. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, industrial technology, telecommunications, or a related technical field, or through equivalent training and experience. Maintaining a valid California driver license and the willingness and ability to work irregular hours as a part of an on-call rotation are conditions of employment.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Thorough knowledge of telecommunications and transmission technologies

• Ability to demonstrate competence in independently applying technical judgment to standard and nonstandard applications and systems, solving a wide range of problems and developing practicable and thorough solutions

• Effective communication and listening skills

• Demonstrated commitment and/or experience promoting and fostering a working environment that is supportive of individuals from diverse backgrounds

• Working knowledge of current data networking systems, protocols, and industry standards and a solid grounding in TCP/IP fundamentals

• Ability to configure routing on a set of switches and routers

• Ability to interpret monitoring reports and resolve connectivity and throughput problems as they impact services

• Ability to configure VLAN tagging and routing protocols

• Ability to install and troubleshoot network support services: DHCP, RADIUS, DNS, etc.

• Ability to work independently on long term projects

• Ability to design and implement network architecture and topology

• An understanding of the dynamics of diversity in higher education and a demonstrated ability to incorporate this understanding, as appropriate

• Ability to move and carry 50 lbs.

• Ability to work in confined spaces and on ladders

• Ability to distinguish colors sufficiently to correctly punch down and terminate cables

Preferred Qualifications:

• Two years of relevant experience performing duties associated with the duties listed above

• BICSI Certification

• Experience with Alcatel Lucent Equipment

• Experience working in an enterprise network environment

• Palo Alto Networks firewall experience

• Experience working with Enterprise Aruba Wireless Controller
