Department of Social Medicine, Population & Public Health – Tenure Track Assistant Professor Position

The Department of Social Medicine, Population and Public Health within University of California Riverside School of Medicine is recruiting a tenure track faculty member at the Assistant Professor rank. Candidates with expertise in social and behavioral health research are encouraged to apply. We are looking for a research scientist with both a strong emphasis in health disparities, mental health, substance use, chronic conditions and community-based participatory research with under-resourced and historically disadvantaged groups. The successful candidate must possess an MD, PhD or equivalent degree in anthropology, sociology, psychology, public health, or similar fields. We seek a forward-thinking candidate committed to collaborative, interdisciplinary research with experience in developing solutions that extend beyond the individual to include community systemic change. Areas of specialization should have relevance for social determinants of health, delivery of health services, clinical and community interventions. Preference will be given to a candidate with a record of scholastic achievements as evidenced by high quality peer reviewed publications and extramural funding. The successful candidate will be also be expected to show a strong commitment to education of medical students, residents and graduate students, as well as to University and public service. We are particularly interested in applicants who complement and can build on the current faculty’s expertise and who align with the SOM social mission by demonstrating interest, experience, and sensitivity to the needs of under-resourced populations.
