Associate Dean for Academic Affairs
SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Associate Dean for Academic Affairs (ADAA) is the academic affairs officer for the Indiana University School of Nursing (IUSON). IUSON includes: Indiana University- Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), Indiana University Bloomington (IUB), and Indiana University School of Nursing Fort Wayne campus (IUSON-FW). The ADAA provides leadership to achieve excellence in graduate and undergraduate nursing education. The ADAA reports to the Dean, is a member of the School’s Executive Team, and participates in faculty governance as elected or appointed.

FUNCTIONS

• Provides strategic direction and leadership for the academic affairs of the IUSON and to the IUSON’s Center for Academic Affairs (CAA) on the IUPUI campus.
• Provides strategic and administrative direction to the faculty in the development, implementation, modification, and evaluation of graduate and undergraduate curricula.
• Empowers and establishes a strong working relationship with the graduate and undergraduate faculty.
• Works with academic leaders to ensure a well-integrated operational plan of the IUSON's goals and mission, and those of the campus and Graduate School.
• Accountable for implementing a continuous quality improvement process and works with the Assistant Dean of Evaluation to monitor all academic program outcomes.
• Represents the School of Nursing’s academic programs within the University and to external constituents.
• Working with Assistant Deans and other administrators, ensures that students in all academic programs are provided positive learning experiences that result in competent professionals who meet the health care needs of the state/nation.
• Promotes a consensual approach to establish the strategic direction of all academic programs so that faculty contribute in a meaningful way to achieve the desired outcomes.
• Provides oversight to ensure the integrity of Indiana University’s academic programs in Nursing.
• Champions and contributes to recruiting quality and diverse students to academic programs and monitors effectiveness of educational experience for the entire student population.
• Working with the Assistant Deans and Directors, assures orientation of faculty and students to the graduate and undergraduate programs.
• Expands resources through obtaining contracts, grants, and student fellowships.
• Ensures that ANA Certification requirements are met if indicated in the graduate and undergraduate programs.
• Supervises the activities of the Assistant Deans in managing all course leaders, coordinators, directors and other administrators who are responsible for academic activities.
• Prepares and manages the budget for CAA and makes recommendations and implements actions to increase revenue.
• Supervises and evaluates direct reports
• Provides input into faculty reviews on request.
• Assumes primary leadership to ensure accreditation of graduate and undergraduate programs.
• Provides essential information to students, other administrators, faculty, and staff to foster an environment of open communication and trust.
• Ensures consistency of the graduate and undergraduate programs throughout the IUSON.
• Coordinates activities that may include regional campuses and statewide initiatives

QUALIFICATIONS

• Earned doctorate, nursing major preferred, and master's in nursing, if doctorate is not in nursing.
• Experience in curriculum development and teaching experience at graduate and undergraduate levels in a university school of nursing.
• Academic administrative experience.
• Record of scholarly achievement.
• Eligible for appointment as a Tenured Associate or Full Professor
• Demonstrated expertise in leadership and interpersonal skills.
• Licensed or eligible to be licensed as a registered nurse in Indiana.
• Experience with undergraduate and graduate accreditation requirements.
• Maintains personal academic faculty obligations in teaching, service, and research in accordance with area of expertise.
