Position Summary

The Associate Director of Academic Success provides research, design, and curricular support to the Assistant Dean of Students and Academic Success in the development and implementation of all academic success and bar passage programming. The Associate Director works closely with the Assistant Dean of Students and Academic Success, faculty, and staff to enhance the learning and study skills of all students, with an emphasis on at-risk students. The Associate Director develops and presents academic success and bar support workshops, specialized materials, and other programs, including pre-matriculation and summer bar support programming. The Associate Director teaches and supports substantive bar-preparation courses and/or courses that provide academic and law-specific skill development. The Associate Director provides in-depth individual academic counseling to students to identify areas in need of improvement and to develop plans based on each student's specific needs and abilities. The Associate Director helps collect, analyze, and interpret both hard and narrative data relating to students' pre-law school academic background, law school performance, and bar passage. The Associate Director is expected to research and keep abreast of latest developments in ASP pedagogy, learning theories, technologies, and scholastic literature. The Associate Director helps track and report information regarding bar passage. The Associate Director serves on faculty committees where appropriate and assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Assists the Assistant Dean of Students and Academic Success in developing and administering the Academic Support and Bar Strategies Programs. This includes organizing and presenting specialized materials, workshops, and programs for students and faculty, including pre-matriculation and summer bar support programming; and teaching and supporting substantive bar-preparation courses and/or courses that provide academic and law-specific skill development. Also includes researching and keeping abreast of latest developments in ASP pedagogy, learning theories, technologies, and scholastic literature.
• Meets individually with students to identify areas in need of improvement and to develop plans based on each student’s specific needs and abilities. Provides in-depth feedback and guidance on areas such as analytical writing skills, time management, and other skills that assist law students in achieving a high level of academic performance. Collects, analyzes, and interprets both hard and narrative data relating to students’ pre-law school academic background, law school performance, and bar passage.
• Assists the Assistant Dean of Students and Academic Success with accommodation requests, including receiving student requests, organizing a committee for review of requests, and drafting accommodation letters.
• The Associate Director helps track and report information regarding bar passage and serves on faculty committees where appropriate and assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• JD; Prior or current admission to a state bar.
• Must have knowledge of law school curriculum and academic success principles and techniques.
• 3-5 years of professional legal experience.
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills, with special aptitude for patience and positive motivation.
• Ability to effectively manage and prioritize multiple competing projects.
• Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Westlaw.

Preferred Qualifications

• 2+ years experience with law school academic and/or bar support preferred.
• Some teaching experience preferred
• Expertise in learning technology and legal technology preferred.
• Counseling background preferred but not necessary.
