Assistant Professor
TITLE: Assistant Professor - Technology & Libraries
POSITION DESCRIPTION: This new full-time 9-month tenure-track faculty position will be part of a highly anticipated and well-supported new Master of Science in Library and Information Sciences (MSLIS) Program and will focus on libraries and their roles in data science, information management, information organization, information behavior and related activities. The successful candidate is expected to develop an extramurally-funded research program that will enhance strengths in information management; mentor and advise graduate students; assist with the development of curriculum in the technology tract of the MSLIS program; teach in one or more of the following areas: data mining and big data databases, visualization, programming (Java Script and Python); web development, linked data and other semantic web languages and technologies (RDF, SPARQL, OWL, JSON, etc.); and participate in service/engagement. The anticipated appointment date is Fall 2019.

Doctorate in library and information studies or related field is required. Demonstrated record of effectiveness to teach in a master's program; a record of peer reviewed publication and/or peer-reviewed creative activity which has contributed to the discipline or field of study, to the candidate's intellectual and artistic development, and to the quality of the academic enterprise; a record of professional service appropriate to the discipline; promise of growth in teaching and research or artistic and creative activity; demonstrated commitment to excellence in serving a diverse population; commitment to continuous improvement and innovation.

The Master of Science in Library and Information Science is a 36-hour, 100% online or face-to-face program which includes a three-hour practicum. The program centers on the following skill areas: (1) public services; (2) technical services; (3) information technology; and (4) success in the workplace. The Master's in Library and Information Science is focused on equipping graduates of the program with the skills they need to work with diverse populations in an ever-evolving global information society. The program is scheduled to begin classes Fall 2019. Each course will include projects to practice competencies and incorporate knowledge obtained from readings, theoretical discussions and other coursework to provide the practical experience needed to ensure graduates are ready to contribute to the profession.
