Academic Advisor - MSLIS Program
Performs academic advising, educational, professional, or other basic academic advising or training at the individual or group level as appropriate. Work is performed under supervision with performance based on individual advising effectiveness and overall program results obtained.

Major/Essential Functions:
*Serve as academic advisor for the Master of Science in Library and Information Science Program providing general administrative support to faculty and students.
*Serve as first point of contact, greet visitors and answer telephone lines; take messages and reply to routine questions from faculty, staff, students, and the general public. Knowledge of principles and processes for providing quality customer service.
*Assist with recruiting and future student enrollment processes and procedures.
*Set up and manage paper or electronic filing systems, recording information, updating paperwork, or maintaining documents, such as attendance records, correspondence, or other material.
*Provide information to supervisors, program faculty, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.
*Provide statistical reports as are relative to departmental functions using excel, Springshare and other software as needed.
*Communicate with students regarding deadlines, report to the Graduate School exam results.
*Assist faculty and students in submitting required forms to the Graduate School Enrollment Management SharePoint.
*Work with the Graduate School in coordinating information and announcements for current students.
*Prior to each semester contact non-enrolled students by phone and email to check their status and track issues that may be preventing student from enrolling.
*Process degree audits for students at mid-point in their studies, the semester prior to graduation and the semester of graduation to make sure student is making progress and are cleared at the Graduate School for graduation.
*Work closely with faculty advisors.
*Assist program faculty as needed.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required; one year related experience preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:
*Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, & Outlook.
*Ability to read and understand information and ideas both written and verbally.
*Ability to operate or learn to operate office machines required to perform the assigned work.
*Ability to deal effectively in contacts with people.
*Proficiency of at least 55 wpm typing. Performs with a high degree of accuracy.
*Must be very dependable and conscientious.
*Displays an ability to learn rapidly and adapt quickly to changing situations.
