The University of New Mexico Health Sciences Library and Informatics Center (UNM HSLIC) seeks applications from highly motivated, innovative, technologically adept and service oriented professionals to join the library as our Resource Management Librarian. This position will provide leadership in acquiring library resources and articulating the direction, balance and emphasis of the library’s general collection. A successful candidate will have an in-depth understanding of library technical services, and the latest trends in making collections more accessible and discoverable for learners. The Resource Management Librarian works in close collaboration with personnel from appropriate HSLIC units and other academic units in the UNM Health Sciences Center in developing, evaluating and assessing the library's collections to further the campus mission of research, teaching, and public service. A successful candidate will be professionally engaged, forward-thinking, collaborative, and up to the challenge of providing necessary library resources for a comprehensive academic health center.

This is a faculty position within HSLIC and reports to the Division Head for Resources, Archives and Discovery with a primary appointment in the UNM School of Medicine. In addition to the above primary duties, the incumbent would be expected to participate in educational activities, departmental liaison responsibilities, committee service and scholarly communication activities.

The responsibilities of the position include:

• Provides leadership in acquiring library resources including the application of new technologies related to collection development and management.
• Articulates the direction, balance and emphasis of the library’s general collection, as well as formulates policies.
• Analyzes the use of library resources and assesses the collection.
• Participates in the collection’s budget planning process; tracks expenditures throughout the fiscal year.
• Monitors developments within the publishing industry, innovations and trends in academic library collection development practices.
• Collaborates with faculty and staff from appropriate HSLIC units and other academic units in the UNM Health Sciences Center in developing, evaluating and assessing the library's collections.
• Represents HSLIC on appropriate University, statewide and regional consortia that promote collaboration among libraries in purchasing and sharing library materials and other resources.
• Serves as a member of the Resources, Archives and Discovery unit, contributes to the planning, development, coordination, and implementation of unit initiatives.
• Conducts research and communicates it through peer-reviewed venues such as journal articles, posters, and conference presentations.
• Participates as an active member the HSLIC reference team, maintains office hours, and provides instruction on the use of library resources.
• Participates as a HSLIC faculty member in collection development, committee service, strategic planning initiatives, education, and scholarly activities.


• Graduate degree in library or information science from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited institution.
• At least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
• Applicants must be eligible to work in U.S.

• Experience working in an academic health sciences library.
• Experience working with publishers and vendors of library resources.
• Experience in communicating and collaborating with faculty to identify resources to support curricula.
• In-depth understanding of the intricacies in developing and managing a comprehensive library collection serving multiple populations.
• Demonstrated competencies in managing or troubleshooting electronic resources.
• Demonstrated experience leading and coordinating library-wide projects in the areas of process improvement such as migrating library data, migrating library catalog systems, and/or developing new library service(s).
• Demonstrated commitment to providing outstanding user experiences in making library collections more accessible and discoverable for learners.
• Understanding of publishers’ statistics standards and using an evidence-based approach to analyzing data.
• Excellent written communication skills as demonstrated in the required writing sample.

Located in Albuquerque, HSLIC serves the UNM School of Medicine, including its Health Professions programs; undergraduate and graduate programs in the College of Nursing, College of Pharmacy and College of Population Health; and two teaching hospitals.
