Job Purpose
The Associate Director of the Academic Advising Center will provide leadership and support in the development and implementation of continuing and new initiatives to improve the university’s ability to retain and graduate students. This position is responsible for a portion of the administrative duties of the Center to ensure high quality advising services and programs for Towson University students. Current programs include First-Year Experience (FYE), Transfer Advising and Orientation, academic intervention efforts for students in academic jeopardy, Freshmen Transition Program (FTP), Student Academic Advisors, and summer orientation for freshmen.

Description
The Associate Director will supervise and evaluate professional advising staff, as well as advising freshmen and transfer students, students in academic difficulty, students who have not declared a major, and others seeking assistance from Academic Advising. Specific responsibilities include managing the registration process for first-semester freshmen, coordinating the advising component of freshmen orientation, maintaining the Academic Advising Center’s budget, working with campus partners, serving on university-wide committees, and participate in programming and events which may include speaking to large groups.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree and four years of experience. Knowledge of academic advising practices and student development theory. Experience with academic support programs, staff supervision and evaluation, and working with a diverse college student population. Ability to work well and communicate effectively with students, parents, faculty, and staff at different levels of the university organization.

Preferred:
Master's Degree and four years of higher education experience. Evidence of commitment to academic advising as a professional field.
