Assistant Project Scientist
The Project Engineer or Scientist will lead and manage model development for life cycle assessment and carbon flow assessment of California perennial cropping systems. This will require the collection and analysis of in-field data measurement for tree biomass accumulation, partnering on soil carbon in-field data measurements, spatial modeling in ArcGIS to support regionalized agronomic modeling and regionally-specific reference life cycle inventory development, and life cycle model development using GaBi software and associated databases and Excel or R software. The Project Engineer and Scientist will also be required to lead documentation efforts and will be responsible for developing appropriate reporting materials to funders, and authoring peer-reviewed publications based on this research.

Basic qualifications include a PhD in horticulture, agronomy, environmental engineering, agricultural engineering, or a related field, and experience with developing original life cycle assessment models (including familiarity with reference life cycle inventory databases), expertise in orchard system agroecology, experience collecting in-field data from orchards or farms, and fluency with ArcGIS modeling.

Additional qualifications: Experience with communicating with grower and commodity board (or other industry) stakeholders and familiarity with California’s water infrastructure is also desired.

Preferred qualifications: Knowledge of state-of-the-art uncertainty modeling methods for life cycle assessment.

Requirements: Salary will be commensurate with qualifications. To ensure consideration, submit curriculum vitae, three references, via the web-based, online submission system at
