Job Purpose
Towson University is accepting applications for a Lead Teacher in our University Child Care Center. This position will mentor internships, supervise student staff and assistants, as well as, communicate the school philosophy. Communicate with families and build relationships. Nurture and provide a love of the arts and STEM to our youngest students. Fulfill all licensing requirements, maintain MSDE credentialing, collaborate with various university departments, and represent the greater mission of Towson University. Maintain our Reggio Emilia inspired environment.

Develop instruction that is developmentally appropriate to all students within the classroom community. Compose regular communications with families. Assess all students and use project-based curriculum to promote growth of the whole-child and meet them at their level of learning. Create a nurturing yet structured environment for all students, both early learners and college, to explore and learn. Create and maintain portfolios on each student that aligns with MMSR and Common Core State standards. Utilize the school wide policy for discipline and maintain confidentiality of every family and student. Follow university protocols for child abuse and state licensing requirements. Supervise, train, and mentor student staff. Use supervisory skills to maintain the desired climate of the school. Collaborate and evaluate the performance of staff at the end of each semester. Communicate school policies with emails, meetings, and training. Model best practices as the College of Education defines them in a learner-centered engaging environment. Process staff payroll and leave requests. Communicate with families and other agencies to build relationships with families and needs to be maintained on a regular basis. Conferences are held 2 - 3 times a year and allows teacher and parents to plan and assess the goals for individual learning. Portfolios are maintained to support the planning for the growth of every learner and are used to document such growth. Communication also assists families with the transition process, provides needed support, and allows for collaboration through areas of growth such as toilet training. Collaborate with various departments at the University and participate in TU initiatives. Promote the Center within the greater community. Maintain positive relationships with interns in the classrooms through constructive feedback and close communication with professors. Participate in all school initiatives, i.e. garden, internships, art gallery, family reading program, and any other interest program. Provide administrative assistance to the Director when necessary.

Bachelor’s degree and three years of early childhood education experience.

Teaching Certification for Preschool (90+9 hours certification or MSDE teacher certificate). The ability to design, implement, and maintain a curriculum that addresses standards as outlined in the MD College and Career Ready Standards through a learner-centered pedagogy; collect and maintain individual student portfolios; and supervise and model best practices for meeting the needs of early learners for college assistants, interns, and observers in the classroom.

Knowledge and experience collecting artifacts and creating portfolios. Experience in a lab school setting and working with college students.

A Criminal Background Investigation is required for the hired candidate and the results may impact employment.

Salary and Benefits
