Job Purpose
Housing and Residence Life at Towson University (TU) is currently accepting applications for a Residence Life Coordinator. The Residence Life Coordinator (RLC) is primarily responsible for the learning and student development within a residential community housing 320-625 students. The RLC leads the community of student learners and supervises Resident Assistants. The RLC serves as a member of the area staff responsible for developing a comprehensive living and learning environment for residence hall students. Responsibilities also include counseling and student conduct, physical facilities, committees and other assignments.

The Residence Life Coordinator reports to the Assistant Director of Residence Life in the area assigned, has additional opportunities for involvement in the department and University, and is encouraged to belong and contribute to professional associations. The department financially supports professional activities.

Community Building, Student Learning and Education
The Residence Life Coordinator will lead residential engagement efforts by providing all students with a level of immersion that prompts them to learn about themselves and others, while reflecting on their multiple roles and responsibilities within the community. Embody the department’s residential engagement model through multiple avenues that include but are not limited to: in hall opportunities, large scale events, student interactions, community walks, co-curricular involvement, and educational programming. Share experiences through conversations, programming, and being a visible entity to help promote diversity awareness among students in the residence halls. Coordinate, advise, and oversee assigned Residential Learning Communities while developing working relationships with faculty and staff campus partners. Engage with students by educating, explaining, interpreting, and reinforcing policies as listed in the Student Code of Conduct, housing contract, and staff manual. Uphold TU’s educational conduct practice through meetings and appropriate sanctions in collaboration with the Office of Student Conduct and Civility Education.

The incumbent will provide leadership to a residence hall community of 320-625 first year and upper-class students. Supervise and train a team of 8-13 Resident Assistants,12-24 Community Center Assistants, and 1-2 Community Center Managers by holding staff and one-on-one meetings to foster community engagement and development. Mentor and guide staff to build meaningful relationships with resident students, coworkers, and supervisors. Develop staffs’ leadership skills through creating expectations, goal setting, and prompting reflection. Train and evaluate staff to complete administrative tasks integral to maintaining housing operations, safety, and security. Advise building council (hall government) to serve the residence hall community by means of student advocacy, leadership skill development, team building, and programming.

Execution and Administration
The Residence Life Coordinator will manage and allocate the Resident Assistant and Building Council programming budgets. Oversee housing occupancy by facilitating building openings and closings, building access, and key inventory. Maintain exceptional physical condition of residence halls by proactively identifying needs, reporting issues, assessing damage, and assigning billing as appropriate. Administer and assist with departmental projects and other duties as assigned.

Conflict Management
This position will work with students who experience peer conflict to achieve civility and resolution. Follow-up with those involved in incidents. Participate in departmental on-call rotation to ensure the safety and well-being of our students.

Master’s degree required. Master's degree in higher education, student personnel, or related field preferred. Previous residence life experience and experience with program development, advising helping/counseling, housing administration, and working with diverse students is also preferred.

Additionally, RLCs must be available during evenings and weekends, as well as be able to scale four flights of stairs in order to respond to residence hall incidents.

A Criminal Background Investigation is required for the hired candidate and the results may impact employment.

Salary and Benefits
