Job Description:
Boston Conservatory at Berklee invites applications for the position of full-time Assistant/Associate Professor of Voice. The ideal candidate for this position will be a motivated, creative professional who is committed to excellence in the education of singers, has a demonstrated record of teaching, performance, and recruitment, and values working in a campus community that actively promotes cultural diversity and multicultural understanding. This is a 9-month full-time faculty position with renewable contract; initial appointment to begin September 1, 2020. Compensation and rank are commensurate with professional experience.
Voice Department at Boston Conservatory at Berklee:
The Voice Department teaches to excellence, preparing students for professional careers in music while guiding them with support and respect to discover their purpose. The department is situated within the Music Division and comprises the Voice Performance Program, the Choral Studies Program, the Opera Program, and the Vocal Pedagogy Program. The Department offers 10 unique degree programs to 120 voice majors at the undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate levels. Degrees offered include Bachelor of Music in Voice; Masters of Music in Voice, in Choral Conducting, in Vocal Pedagogy, and in Opera; and Graduate Performance Diplomas in Voice or Opera.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
Responsible for teaching a full time voice studio (up to 18 hours) of voice majors in all degree programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels;
Guide students in the development of a sustainable technique and healthy and appropriate vocal production;
Prepare and present semesterly studio recitals;
Recruit students in all voice-area programs nationally and internationally;
Participate in assessment of juries, pre-recitals and recitals
Maintain a presence on campus, attending on-campus performances and participating in faculty recitals and other faculty events;
Participate in Voice Department and Music Divisional governance;
Other teaching relative to the candidate’s interests and expertise;
Service to the Conservatory as assigned by the Chair
Required Skills:
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse population
High degree of organization
Expertise in relevant vocal pedagogy
Understanding and knowledge of the art song, operatic and oratorio repertoire
Required Qualifications:
Master's Degree with professional experience as performer and/or teacher equivalent to the terminal degree
Demonstrated experience and success teaching classical voice and opera in an accredited higher education institution
Experience mentoring serious young singers seeking to enter the profession
A demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion in ways of teaching/learning and in professional activities
Demonstrated success teaching students of diverse backgrounds at the undergraduate and graduate levels
Experience in, and enthusiasm for, working with a diverse faculty and student body
Demonstrated ability to recruit young singers of high caliber on national and international levels
