Unit Manager - SWC/SCL Field Acquisition
Position Description:

Manages a unit within a department. Plans, organizes and develops goals and procedures for the unit. Represents the unit to administrators, outside agencies and others on relevant matters. Supervises subordinate staff.

Major/Essential Functions:

- Manages field acquisitions for SWC manuscripts, including travel and transport of collections, conducting SWC oral histories, and assisting with transporting exhibits. Follows accession procedures, policies, and all protocols.
- Assists with and manages special processing of SWC manuscript collections, finding aids, and work with exhibits per direction of supervisor.
- Assists supervisor with SWC website by posting relevant collecting information for donors, patrons, and researchers.
- Represents the SWC in acquiring collections and oral histories. Includes frequent and overnight travel, including out of state.
- Reports on collecting activity to supervisor and SWC Archivist.
- Follows up on donations, contacts, for manuscripts, and oral history interviews.
- Coordinates with registrar on records pertaining to collection donations and accessions.
- Works with supervisor and registrar on planning acquisition of collections, storing of collections (space considerations- physical and digital) and processing of collections.

Required Qualifications :

Bachelor's degree plus three years supervisory experience; OR a combination of education and/or supervisory experience to equal seven years.

Preferred Qualifications:

- MA in History or related field.
- Archival experience.
- Knowledge of archival principles and procedures.
- Strong proficiency with computers, word processing, and database programs.
- Ability to communicate very well and in a collegial, courteous, and attentive manner with co-workers, patrons, and donors.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
- Must be able to move large quantities of heavy materials.
- Must be able to drive van and cargo van.
- Strong organizational and planning skills.
