Assistant Director of Campus Engagement
The Assistant Director is the primary advisor to the Class Officer Collective (COC), Case Western Reserve University Hudson Relays Committee and the Senior Week Committee. This position serves as the project manager for the Spartie Mascot program and is responsible for initiating programs to enhance campus pride and engagement (i.e. Homecoming and Legacy Week). This position also coordinates the SA&L Student Organization Liaison program. In collaboration with other staff members in the Office of Student Activities & Leadership, the assistant director will serve as a risk management specialist for approximately 200 undergraduate student clubs and organizations and 70-90 graduate student organizations. This position will directly supervise one graduate assistant and provide indirect supervision to undergraduate student interns.

Advise the Class Officer Collective. The Class Officer Collective (COC) is composed of five elected representatives of each class: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Marketing and Public Relations Officer. Provide direction to this group of students to create class-specific programming and implement campus traditions (Hudson Relays, Snowball Dance, and Orientation Week). Oversee the completion of university requisitions, disbursements, internal charges and deposits for the COC and approval by the director. Serve as the primary processor of all contracts and technical riders initiated through the COC. Guide the students on budget, purchasing, reviewing contracts, risk management, marketing, and assessment. This individual will attend all programs. The COC’s allocated budget is approximately $95,000. (30%)
Provide direction to the Senior Week planning committee. Guide the planning, risk management, marketing, financial responsibilities, and implementation associated with this annual week of events. Oversee the completion of university requisitions, disbursements, internal charges and deposits for Senior Week for authorization and approval by the director. Serve as the primary processor of all contracts and technical riders initiated through Senior Week. Senior Week’s allocated budget is approximately $60,000. (20%)
Supervise one graduate assistant; facilitate their professional growth and development of transferrable skills. Work collaboratively in advising the COC, managing the Spartie Mascot Team and other programs. (10%)
Serve as the project manager for the Spartie Mascot Team. Oversee recruitment, selection, training and marketing of Spartie. (9%)
Serve as the project manager for the SA&L Student Organization Liaison program; overseeing the flow of communication from office liaisons to student organizations as well as the planning of weekly office community engagement activities. (7%)
Initiate programs to enhance campus pride and engagement including the Homecoming Parade, BlueCWRU Fridays, and Legacy Week. (6%)
Serve as a risk management specialist for the approximately 270-290 undergraduate and graduate student organizations served through the SA&L. Responsible for overseeing the completion and advising of the Alcohol Use Report process and risk management steps for all events as needed. Responsible for training student leaders on travel waivers and other elements of creating sound risk management plans. (6%)
Serve as a facilitator, presenter or volunteer for departmental and divisional student development programs including, but not limited to Diversity 360, Emerging Leaders Program, Fall Leadership Conference and the Pytte Cup. (6%)

Assist in the daily operation of the Office of Student Activities & Leadership. (2%)
Serve on university and divisional committees as assigned. (1%)
Maintain an awareness of current trends in the student activities field. Use this knowledge to consult with student organizations as needed/requested. (1%)
Participate in professional organizations (as approved by the associate director) and attend conferences and seminars. (1%)
Perform other duties as assigned. (1%)

Department: Daily contact with all office staff to execute the office mission.
University: Continual contact with other Student Affairs offices: Tinkham Veale University Center, Office of General Counsel, Alumni Affairs, Facilities and Operations (Housekeeping, Grounds and Maintenance, Plant Services); Campus Access Services (Parking, Security); Educational Enhancement, new student and family programs; Controllers Office; Accounts Payable; and university faculty for the purpose of collaboration and executing student programs.
External: Continual contact with Cleveland area organizations for the development of programs that involve community outreach or community service, including the University Circle Incorporated. Continual contact with vendors for the purchase of t-shirts, novelty items, etc.
Students: Daily contact with the members of COC. Daily contact with other members of student clubs and organizations. Strong collaboration involving student organizations outside of Student Activities and Leadership for the purpose of the development and delivery of programming and enhancing campus pride at Case Western Reserve University.

Responsible in the recruitment for and supervision of one graduate assistant.

Experience: 1 to 3 years of demonstrated experience with programming, event planning and working with a student population required. Some experience with risk management advising is a plus.
Education/licensing: Master’s degree required.

Must possess a strong philosophy in student engagement and student activities.
Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and maintain a work environment that is marked by inclusiveness and respect for others.
Experience in programming and work in a college union/student center setting is strongly desirable.
Strong background in leadership development programming and group dynamics (experience with Gallup StrengthsQuest would be a plus).
Effective communication and organizational skills and ability to relate well to students is necessary.
Must be able to assist in the personal development of student leaders.
Ability to develop a team environment is a must.
Basic familiarity with Microsoft Office suite applications, email, internet navigation and social media is required. (Any experience with PeopleSoft and/or CampusGroups would be a plus)
Ability to meet consistent attendance.
Ability to interact with colleagues, supervisors and customers face to face.
Website management experience is a plus.

Typical student center/union work environment. The employee must be willing to work evenings and weekends. High concentrations of student traffic and work with student needs and interests. Due to high volume of student traffic, assistance as a team player in management of the main office is expected.
