The IT Support Senior Technician has an expert level of technical knowledge and experience in one or more IT-related areas. This position's scope of responsibility includes providing technical support and assistance to departments, faculty, staff, and students with the use of hardware and some software support and maintenance. The IT Support Senior Technician will also specialize in hardware and software that support institutional strategic initiatives, and manage area or unit IT projects that impact multiple departments or units.

Major/Essential Functions

• Oversees Library's servers, SANs, and Compellent storage at Technology Operations & Systems Management (TOSM). Performs server and storage maintenance.
Performs server backup administration and disaster recovery planning. Participates in project management and imaging of PCs and Macs in the Library.
• Shares in 24-hour on-call responsibilities in a weekly rotation using the department cell phone, performing server maintenance when necessary. When not on-call, serves as a resource for those who are if assistance is required.
• Participates in the annual process of editing and updating of the Service and Support Catalog. Creates and manages documentation of lessons learned, best practices, and all other appropriate details in all areas related to this position's responsibilities to enable effective progress tracking, ongoing accountability, support, replication, and evolution. Makes appropriate contributions to the Knowledgebase.
• Supports the Total Quality Management philosophy of the Library Technology Management and Services (LTMS) department within the Library. As a member of the LTMS Technology Support Operations Team, provides technical support and assistance to departments, faculty, academic staff, and students. Assess the LTMS support efforts/activities in effectiveness, efficiency, quality, and production.
• Renders tier 4 desktop support and server support for tickets sent in by student assistants, faculty, and staff in alignment with the LTMS Tech Support Services Catalog and Library and Texas Tech University policies. Trains student assistants where able.
• Coordinates all Library audio-visual technologies and associated services for Library events and other purposes as needed. Performs technology support during the events as requested by the Library's Event Coordinator. May be required to assist with events taking place outside of normal business hours.
• Primarily responsible for managing the Library’s SQL and MySQL servers.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree with coursework in computer science, MIS, IT, or other related area plus seven (7) years related full-time paid experience OR a combination of related education and/or experience. Applicants for this Security Sensitive Level II position will be subject to a criminal background check and must pass a drug and alcohol test after a conditional offer of employment has been extended, but before employment can be confirmed.

Preferred Qualifications

Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate, VMware Certified Professional. Windows Server 2012/R2 and 2016 experience, server backup administration, Dell Server hardware, Active Directory management, Group Policy management, Mac OS X experience, Windows 10 experience, wide scale system imaging. Planning/performing Windows server migrations, VMware vCenter and ESXI management. Fundamental knowledge of audio/visual equipment.
