Research Scientist
The Department of Engineering Systems and Environment in the School of Engineering and Applied Science, University of Virginia, is currently accepting applications for a Research Scientist to support ongoing research activities of the Commonwealth Center for Advanced Logistics Systems, the NSF Center for Hardware and Embedded Systems Security and Trust, and the Center for Risk Management of Engineering Systems. The Candidate is also expected to develop new areas of research that build from current activities.

The primary location of the position may be away from Charlottesville, and will be negotiated with the employee.

Publishing of research in the interest areas of the Department is essential: Engineering systems, environment, risk analysis, resilience analysis, system reliability, risk management, infrastructure systems, etc. There is particular interest in solutions for pandemic resilience of socio-technical systems.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: A Ph.D. degree in Systems Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field is required by the start date. Preference will be given to individuals with expertise in systems reliability, systems resilience, network science, data science, and supply chains.

Additional desired skills include:
logistics management,
supply chains,
freight transportation,
economic impacts,
security and trust,
contingency operations, and
related topics.

The successful candidate is detail oriented, self-motivated, creative, and dependable. He/she is an effective communicator, and will work directly with faculty PIs and research sponsors and engage in supervising current graduate and undergraduate students. The candidate must be able to work in teams and meet project goal deadlines.
