Library Associate - Access Services Nighttime Desk Staff




Position Description

This paraprofessional position holds responsibilities that may involve supervision of a work unit and/or the undertaking of specialized work requiring a high level of expertise, such as cataloging or processing of manuscript collections. Independent judgment and a comprehensive knowledge of tasks are used to accomplish the mission of the unit. Work is performed under general supervision within established policies with latitude for independent judgment. Evaluation is based upon a review of completed work and overall results obtained.

Major/Essential Functions

• Works at service desk; answers incoming phone calls to main library number and triages where appropriate.
• Assists patrons with reservation of Group Study Rooms; issues TexShare cards, community eRaider, borrower’s cards and guest WiFi to patrons.
• Serves as escalation point to Non-Primary Desk staff for customer service questions; refers patrons to relevant subject librarians.
• Completes incident reports as needed.
• Provides supplemental training for Student Assistants after initial training by SA supervisor; Monitors student assistants’ day to day activities including monitoring student assistant schedule and notifies SA supervisor of deviations.
• Maintains inventory of reserve items at service desk.
• Perform point of sale transactions using credit card machine while following PCI DSS.
• Gathers and enters statistical information of transactions outside of ALMA.
• Processes intake of Lost & Found items and monitor accompanying logbook.
• Submits tickets through Fusion (LTMS) and Building Maintenance Services.
• Performs frequent security rounds to ensure safety of patrons and building staff.
• Completes all training and certifications relevant to position and as required by TTU and Library guidelines.
• May open and close building as needed.

Required Qualifications

Bachelors' degree in related field and one year related experience; knowledge and competencies of Microsoft Office. Relevant specialized work experience may substitute for education on a year for year basis. Additional job related education may substitute for required experience on a year for year basis. Ability to learn and work with computer applications unique to libraries or archives.

Preferred Qualifications

Microsoft Office, supervisory experience, customer service skills. Knowledge of TTU Library website and Library databases.
