Position Description

This paraprofessional position holds responsibilities that may involve supervision of a work unit and/or the undertaking of specialized work requiring a high level of expertise, such as cataloging or processing of manuscript collections. Independent judgment and a comprehensive knowledge of tasks are used to accomplish the mission of the unit. Work is performed under general supervision within established policies with latitude for independent judgment. Evaluation is based upon a review of completed work and overall results obtained.

Major/Essential Functions

• Coordinates with Student Assistant Supervisor - Hiring to schedule training of new student assistants.
• Responsible for student assistant performance over service desks of the University Library.
• Assists in the supervision of operations at the service desks.
• Supervises approximately 50-60 student assistants.
• Ensures that all student assistants are following Access Services, Library, and University policies.
• Keeps accurate documentation on student assistant training, attendance, and performance.

• Participates in writing and updating training documentation.

Required Qualifications

Bachelors' degree in related field and one year related experience; knowledge and competencies of Microsoft Office. Relevant specialized work experience may substitute for education on a year for year basis. Additional job related education may substitute for required experience on a year for year basis. Ability to learn and work with computer applications unique to libraries or archives.

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to think independently. Knowledge of Integrated Library Systems. Experience with scheduling software. Effective interpersonal and problem-solving skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Flexibility in work assignments. Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Strong keyboarding skills. Excellent customer service skills. Previous library experience. Previous supervisory experience. Knowledge of Microsoft Software.
