Admission Counselor or Assistant Directo
The Admission Office at Saint Michael's College invites applications for one full-time Admission Counselor or Assistant Director of Admission whose responsibilities will include a strong focus on diversity recruitment initiatives. The position involves cultivating relationships with inquiring students, visiting with them in their home regions and/or on-campus, evaluating their admission applications, and individually encouraging them to choose Saint Michael's during yield season. The focus on diversity recruitment initiatives in this role enables the successful candidate to work collaboratively with other members of the admission staff and offices like the Center for Multicultural Student Affairs & Services. Admission professionals work creatively and use strategic, data-driven techniques employing strong telephone, written, and in-person communication skills.

Responsibilities include, among other things:
•Uses strong analytical and decision-making skills to read and evaluate a large number of applications while meeting deadlines.
•Conducts strategic recruitment activities designed to increase applications and enrollments from students of color. These activities include management of our diversity partnership programs with high schools and CBO's. The successful candidate will also develop and oversee specific campus events, communications efforts, and counseling initiatives to grow the population of students of color throughout the stages of the admission process.
•Builds relationships with school counselors, prospective students, and families. Develops a nuanced understanding of high schools in an assigned geographic territory and acts as the primary admission contact for those schools.
•Plans and executes a significant travel schedule on behalf of the College (much of which has been modified temporarily in response to the COVID-19 pandemic). Follows up on all travel contacts and timely filing of all reports regarding all activities (this includes a reporting/rating of all activities, expense reports, and follow-up with counselors and students).
•Contacts prospective applicants personally to encourage applications and follows up with admitted applicants.
•Makes effective, regular on-campus presentations to visiting groups of students and their families.
•Meets individually with prospective students and families on and off campus.

The candidates selected for hire will be part of a highly motivated, hard-working admission team and will gain much experience working as a part of this team. The candidate also must be capable of working independently, able to successfully multi-task in a fast-paced environment, and be intrinsically motivated to do an excellent job on behalf of the College.

Ideal candidates will bring experience and knowledge related to best practices in service to historically underrepresented student populations, will be invested in the success of enrolled students of color, and will be excited to build strong working relationships with staff in the Center for Multicultural Student Affairs & Services. Ideal candidates will also bring experience and knowledge to conversations and programing about diversity, equity, and inclusion on college campuses and in an Admission setting, and will productively engage in campus-wide conversations in a mission-centered way.

The position requires availability during both weekends and evenings. A significant amount of overnight travel will also be required for approximately 8 weeks in the fall and 4 weeks in the spring. A car will be provided for college-related travel.
