Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in International Peace, Security and Children

The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Dalhousie University invites applications for a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair (CRC) in International Peace, Security and Children. This appointment will be a tenured position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. The position is open with regard to disciplinary specialization, with an expected primary appointment in the Department of Political Science, or International Development Studies, or Sociology and Social Anthropology. The successful candidate will join a flourishing inter-disciplinary research community at Dalhousie focused on issues of ethics, social justice, governance, security, and global affairs and will build on the success and the global reach of the Dallaire Institute for Children, Peace and Security. The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline with an established and outstanding record of research on the recruitment and use of children in violent contexts (including trafficking, sexual violence, criminal networks, radicalization, and/or armed forces, groups or gangs).

The CRC will amplify Dalhousie's research leadership in international peace, security and children, creating deeper connections among researchers at Dalhousie and linking to the significant research and global network established by the Dallaire Institute. The holder of the Chair will be expected to enhance the university’s commitment to community development (broadly understood) and its relationship with government, international organizations and the non-governmental sector. The Chair will also be expected to be involved in cross-faculty initiatives at the university, to coordinate projects across academic and non-academic sectors leading to successful partnerships, and to pursue external funding to support them. The successful candidate will work closely with the Dallaire Institute at Dalhousie University and contribute to its ongoing projects and activities, forging deeper links between the Institute and its three associated Faculties: the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences as well as the Faculties of Health and Law. The successful candidate will have a strong track record of obtaining external funding, working cooperatively and providing leadership in an interdisciplinary environment, developing multi-faceted research projects, and working with graduate students and/or postdoctoral fellows.
