Instructional Design Project Manager
POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Instructional Design Project Manager, working with the Academic Excellence team in UW Continuum College (UWC²), oversees learning design and development projects in UWC². The Project Manager is responsible for managing collaborations between instructional designers, content developers, subject matter experts, program managers, and the media team, to ensure excellence in the the design, development, implementation and maintenance of our learning design projects.

The ideal employee demonstrates proven impact and ability to influence, as well as technical and project management experience. They demonstrate effective project management, change management, risk assessment, and quality assurance skills, and build respectful and effective working relationships with diverse team members and departments within the University.


RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Management

Work hands-on as a project manager, co-owning with the Instructional Designer (ID), the delivery of learning design projects.
Define project scope by articulating stakeholders’ needs, formulating solution strategies, and developing proposals, including timelines and deliverables.
Develop realistic and achievable project plans. Review and acquire plan approval from the project team and direct supervisor.
Develop the work breakdown structure and responsibility matrix based on an analysis of project processes and quality management requirements.
Create and implement transparent project timelines, deliverables, roles and responsibilities with proven tracking systems.
With management and staff input, analyze anticipated work flow and assign projects appropriately.
Establish project performance management baselines for scope and schedule.
Collect and report project status frequently, measure project performance against baselines, analyze variances and make adjustments as needed to keep the project on track.
Prepare effective status reports and review them with UWC² management and stakeholders regularly.
Obtain stakeholder approval of project deliverables.
Process and Systems Analysis

Understand the strategic direction and needs of high-quality learning development.
Work with supervisor and director to ensure departmental resources are allocated effectively and efficiently to projects.
Actively participate in the development process including elicitation, analysis, prioritization, documentation, and communication of development needs.
Participate in learning development meetings with all stakeholders.
Define and re-engineer learning development timelines and workflows.
Bridge the gaps among IDs, content developers, and Program Managers in understanding the deliverables, timelines and stakeholder contributions.
Project Leadership

Monitor and communicate development assignments, deliverable, due dates, roles and responsibilities for learning development projects.
Provide effective leadership without direct reporting relationships for the direct and extended project team, including platform needs, business and other representatives when needed.
Foster a productive and collaborative teamwork environment.
Manage time effectively.
Facilitate group decision making.
Conduct effective and efficient meetings.
Communicate project developments to all stakeholders clearly and continuously.


REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Education, Business Development, or related field, OR has equivalent experience AND 4 or more years of experience to include:

Project management certificate or related certificate.
Solid experience in managing multiple projects at the same time.
Demonstrated expertise in managing projects with both traditional waterfall and Scrum project management approaches and ability to effectively tailor the approach to the situation.
Successful end-to-end implementation of projects utilizing commercially available software products.
Experience completing projects with expedited timelines.
Ability to work with all levels in an organizational structure, from individual contributors to senior executives.
Customer service orientation.
Familiar with MS documentation and project management tools such as: MS Project, Visio, Team Foundation Server, SharePoint, Smartsheet and others.

DESIRED:
Outstanding employees in this role will also have one or more of the following qualifications:

PMI or equivalent certification.
Certified Scrum Master (CSM).
Prior experience as an instructional designer, instructor, or content developer.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, concurrent projects to successful completion with a combined team size of 4 or more people.
Solid understanding of project management software and tools.
