We are seeking individuals with research expertise in applied social health or social determinants of health work that may include screening and linkage with resources, implementation of social health interventions, and/or evaluation of social health programs. Individuals from historically underrepresented groups, who bring to our institute varied life experiences, perspectives, and backgrounds are especially encouraged to apply.

In this role, you will provide content specific scientific expertise (e.g., qualitative or quantitative data analyses, intervention design and implementation, etc.) to support one or more scientific programs. As a Research Associate (RA), you will typically work in collaboration with other scientists (ie, RA's or scientific investigators), project managers, programmers, biostatisticians, and other research staff. The RA track is considered a faculty track, as distinct from other staff roles in the institute which also directly or indirectly support the scientific programs. As such, RA’s are subject to the same academic standards for hiring and promotion as other faculty which include consideration of time within rank, local and national scientific service, scientific reputation, one’s role in generating and disseminating scientific findings as well as one’s overall skill competencies and annual performance. The RA track is a supporting faculty track distinct from the Scientific Investigator track, which is an independent scientific track. This is an entry level role for persons with a doctorate degree or an early-mid career role for someone with a master's degree. You will work under the direction of one or more Scientific Investigators but will be expected to function largely independently on assigned tasks. The specific activities you will participate in can be variable based on the needs of the project and your skillset, but you will be expected to (1) apply advanced research methods, as relevant to your area of expertise and to the projects you support, (2) participate in scientific writing (such as grant applications and scientific papers), and (3) participate in the dissemination of scientific findings to a national audience. The RA III will spend more time in the latter two activities than more junior RA’s and will also be expected to be increasingly nationally recognized for their scientific contributions to their field of study.

RA II Qualifications Include:
• At least four years of advanced research training and experience in a comparable faculty-level research role (with master's degree) OR two years of relevant advanced research training and experience in a comparable faculty-level research role (with doctorate degree)
• A master's degree in a relevant field such as epidemiology, behavioral science, anthropology, etc.
• Research skills as appropriate to the needs of the study and project team, including the ability to review and synthesize the scientific literature and conduct qualitative or quantitative analyses with limited supervision
• The ability to conduct specific activities within one's content domain with supervision
• Proficiency consistent with advanced graduate training and several years of work experience
• Strong organizational skills, oral and written communication, and interpersonal skills
• The ability to work well in a team environment and take direction

Preferred Qualifications Include:
• Previous experience conducting health related research or training in research design and implementation relevant to public health
• Prior research experience or postdoctoral fellowship in a relevant field such as epidemiology, behavioral science, anthropology, etc.
• A doctorate degree in a relevant field such as epidemiology, behavioral science, anthropology, etc.

RA III Qualifications Include:
• At least four years of advanced research training and experience at the post master’s level
• At least ten years of experience in a comparable faculty-level research role
• A master's degree in epidemiology, behavioral science, anthropology, or a relevant field
• The ability to conduct specific activities within one’s content domain with minimal supervision
• Strong organizational skills, oral and written communication, and interpersonal skills
• The ability to work well in a team environment and take direction
• The ability to mentor junior scientists
• Research skills, with the ability to review and synthesize the scientific literature
• The ability to conduct qualitative or quantitative analyses

Preferred Qualifications Include:
• Five years of experience in comparable faculty level role with a doctorate degree
• Experience working as a senior supporting, non-independent, research scientist
• Individuals providing intervention services must have appropriate training, certification, or licensures to practice by date of hire/transfer
• The ability to review and synthesize the scientific literature and the ability to conduct qualitative or quantitative analyses
• Doctorate degree in epidemiology, behavioral science, anthropology, or a related field
