OPPORTUNITY
Visionary leaders are invited to apply for the Dean of the School of Natural Sciences position, to engage the cultures and serve the cities of the Central Valley of California. The School of Natural Sciences has four master’s degree programs (Nursing and Kinesiology), three degree completion programs, and thirteen traditional undergraduate programs, including a newly launched, four-year BS in Nursing program. Modern facilities house faculty offices and laboratories; the campus is in close proximity to the region’s medical hub, spectacular natural areas such as Yosemite and Sequoia National Parks, and the nation’s most productive agricultural region. School faculty members are committed to excellence in education and serving as transformative agents in the world. FPU science graduates have a strong record of career placement, and acceptance into graduate and professional schools.

ROLE
General
• Uphold the mission, vision, and values of Fresno Pacific University as a Christ-centered educational institution at all time and with all people.
• Unfaltering commitment to the Fresno Pacific University Idea and agreement to support its ideals and practices while employed by the University.
• Demonstrate, and advocate for, a commitment to excellence in teaching and scholarship and ensure that all faculty hold to the Fresno Pacific Idea and Theological Statement.
• Lead the faculty to collaboratively develop and implement the vision, mission, and programs of the school, guided by the university vision, mission and the Fresno Pacific University Idea.
• Represent and advocate for the school within and outside the university.
• Serves on admin / staff search committees and appeals panels at the provost’s request.
• Attends and participates in university events.

Academic
• Articulate and motivate a commitment to the liberal arts and the value of learning in general.
• Works with faculty and program directors to lead academic programs at all FPU locations and in all modalities.
• Chairs faculty caucus meetings and serves on university’s academic committees.
• Demonstrate and advocate a commitment to excellence in teaching and scholarship, and the development of the faculty for the intellectual and programmatic health of the school.
• Academic planning, including program assessment, new program development consistent with the mission of the university, and strengthening of existing programs.
• Understand, appreciate, and embrace new technologies, delivery systems and online education.
• Implementing academic policies and course scheduling within the school and in collaboration with other deans.
• Recruit, develop, and evaluate faculty and academic program leadership.
• Serve on Dean’s Council and Academic Cabinet.
• Serve on President’s Council.
• Ensure compliance with regional accreditation and DOE requirements as applicable.
• Represents school, but also works with broader institutional initiatives.

Administration
• Administer the business of the school to ensure the successful delivery of high-quality academic programs including, but not limited to:
o Development and oversight of strategic plans and their assessments,
o Development and oversight of policies, procedures, and schedules,
o Facilitation of school participation in university strategic planning, assessments, governance, marketing, spiritual life, and all other relevant university functions,
o Lead and facilitate the development and nurturing of community partnerships,
o Collaborate with faculty and staff to find grant and donor resources to enhance the capacity of the school,
o Collaborate with the grants office to identify and obtain external funds through effective grant applications,
o Collaborate with university advancement to cultivate donors to academic programs,
o Develop, review, and renew MOUs with partners,
o Compliance with federal, state, and other regulatory bodies.

Financial
• Develop the school budget with input from program directors and that it is reviewed at the appropriate level(s), and submitted on schedule, and that once approved the budget is adhered to.
• Develop a culture of philanthropy among faculty and with friends and donors of the university.

Personnel
• Ability to respond to emotional employee situations in a calming and resilient manner.
• Faculty appointments.
• Faculty evaluation and promotion.
• Supports the professional leadership development of faculty and administrative staff.
• Facilitation of faculty hiring, loads, transitions, evaluations, and complaint remediation.
• Facilitation of student recruitment, retention, internship/career/graduate school participation, alumni relations, and complaint remediation.

Enrollment/Marketing
• Collaborate with enrollment regarding future programs including meeting the needs of market driven opportunities.
• Provide leadership with program directors and faculty to facilitate the appropriate role of academics with student recruitment, advising, and retention.
• Promote the success of all students, including regional campus and online students.
• Facilitate program directors’ collaboration with marketing and recruitment staff.
• Oversee disbursement of scholarship funds where appropriate to the division/program.

Facilities
• Ensure laboratory facilities and equipment are maintained, replaced, and developed.
• Ensure laboratory and health safety standards are in place, maintained, and in compliance with safety regulations and best practices.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required
• Earned terminal degree in appropriate field of study.
• Record of scholarly achievement.
• Prior leadership experience.
• Commitment to the Christian faith and the University’s mission of Christ-centered teaching and learning and involvement in a local church.

COMPENSATION: Dependent on qualifications and experience and paid out over 12 months. Full-time benefits include insurance (medical, vision, dental, LTD), retirement (TIAA).
