Assistant Librarian – Bibliographic Serv
POSITION DESCRIPTION: To serve the information needs of library clientele in assigned subject area(s) to include liaison, collection development, user instruction and reference activities; must also cooperate and function as part of a team to provide services to all library users. This is an entry-level rank assigned to those beginning their professional careers or those, who upon their appointment, do not meet the criteria of Associate Librarian. Work is performed under general supervision with latitude for individual initiative and judgment. Evaluation of employee performance is based upon accomplishment of defined objectives.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Librarian responsible for cataloging and metadata for the Southwest Collection/Special Collections Library as well as contributing to reference services. The incumbent is also expected to engage in scholarly pursuit and other professional activities in accordance with Texas Tech Libraries' standards for promotion and tenure. The position is responsible for cataloging materials in a variety of formats. This position is also responsible for the creation of metadata records for the digital holdings of the SWC/SCL, as well as establishing priorities for the digitization of items. No less than four hours of reference duties a week are required, including extended hours as scheduled. While on reference duty, there is the additional responsibility for the Holden Reading Room, as well as those student assistants assigned to work there. Additionally, there is the need to assist reference as requested and the flexibility to do other tasks. This position requires knowledge of LibGuide creation and is responsible for developing LibGuides that enhance the reference services and accessibility of Southwest Collection/Special Collections materials. In the absence of their supervisor, it is expected that the librarian in this position be able to assume supervisory duties germane to supervised units (i.e. technical processing, reference, and conservation) as requested. The position requires travel as needed to support the organization. Also, service on Libraries' teams or committees is necessary. The Assistant Librarian is a member of the Texas Tech Libraries faculty whose responsibilities include actively pursuing scholarly publishing, professional development, instruction, and service to the Library, University, and community.

QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited program. Preferred: 2nd Master's Degree is preferred; Knowledge of the cultural heritage of the southwestern United States, including West Texas is preferred; 1-2 years archival experience in a Special Collections library; Knowledge of cataloging procedures and ability to follow nationally recognized standards, including Anglo American Cataloging Rules Second Edition Revised (AACR2), Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH), Resource Description and Access (RDA), Dublin Core Metadata Initiative (DCMI), and familiarity with the LC Bibframe Initiative; Ability to communicate effectively both verbal and written; Ability to work independently and as a team member and leader; Experience working with diverse student populations and first-generation students is highly desirable.
