POSITION TITLE: Assistant Director of Student Engagement
DEPARTMENT: ESU Student Activity Association, Inc. (SAA)
REPORTS TO: Director of Student Engagement


The Assistant Director of Student Engagement is a full-time, exempt professional staff member reporting to the Director of Student Engagement. They are charged with developing programs and services which enhance the overall student experience through campus programs and activities. In addition, the Assistant Director assists with the development of leadership and service opportunities, manages marketing and promotion of programs, conducts outcomes assessments, and participates in campus-wide initiatives. Position requires travel, driving vehicles, and some late night and weekend hours.


Student Activities

Develop and run large-scale biweekly programs which may include, but are not limited to, Warriors Got Talent, End of Year Extravaganza, Day of Love, Koehler After Dark, and Game Den

Supervise, develop, and support student event coordinators in the deployment of programs.

Development and delivery of small-scale weekly daytime and evening engagement programs

Responsible for the management of programs within large campus-wide initiatives including, but not limited to, Warrior Induction, Homecoming, Family Weekend, Global Week and diversity celebrations

Collaborate with other departments, student organizations and community members for the development and implementation of community, leadership, diversity, and service programs and events

Initiate and maintain communications with agents and performing artists

Assist with the purchasing, inventory, and maintenance of programming equipment and materials

Advise the Campus Activities Board (CAB), including each of its committees, and coordinate program planning/delivery in conjunction with student leaders. This involves training student leaders relative to their committee work assignments and interests, securing operational/technical support, program supervision, preparation and presentation of the budget, and oversight of committee expenditures to assure compliance with SAA fiscal policies

Interact with faculty, staff, campus organizations and University departments to encourage, promote and facilitate experiential learning initiatives

Assist with the development and implementation of leadership programs including, but not limited to, Leadserve and Leadership By Design certification. This involves the preparation and delivery of relevant skills building and leadership development materials and presentations


Assist with the marketing process for ongoing programs and events which include, but not limited to, printed publicity through our Graphics Center, social media outlets, Warrior Notes, and tabling events

Manage SAA social media platforms for the promotion of programs, news, and surveys which include, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook

Develop and deliver innovative and engaging presentation and marketing for the promotion of programs and services during events that include, but not limited to, Open House, Accepted Student Reception and other campus recruitment events


Assist in development and management of an annual budget

Lead in the selection, training and supervision of student event coordinators

Deploy assessment and reporting that includes student learning outcomes, event assessment, program reviews, monthly and annual reports, participation tracking, and return on investment.

Demonstrate a commitment to the issues of social equity and continue to develop professionally in multicultural competence.

Maintain professional competency and development of innovative programming and services through conference attendance, developing professional contacts, and self-directed professional learning as well as supervise student delegates at conferences.

Perform other related duties as assigned by Director of Student Engagement and/or the Executive Director of the Student Activity Association


Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree (conferred by August 2021) in student affairs, higher education, leadership or related field of study

One year experience in planning, developing, and implementing events and programs

Experience with college student development and organization advising

Demonstrate a commitment to continue to develop professionally in the area of leadership and multicultural competence

Preferred Qualifications

At least two years of post-graduate experience in student activity programming or related college student advising functions

Experience with large-scale campus events including, but not limited to, performers, Homecoming, and diversity programming

Experience with contract negotiation

Experience working with a diverse community and demonstrate commitment to inclusion and social justice

Demonstrate experience in the use of digital tools and social media in outreach to students, which may include CollegiateLink, Facebook, Twitter, etc.

Physical Requirements*

Ability to bend and squat; and stand or sit for extended periods of time

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally

Must have a valid state issued driver’s license

Salary is commensurate with experience. Hiring range is $40,000–$45,000/annually. SAA offers an excellent benefits package.
