Assistant Director
Summary: The assistant director for the Office of Multicultural Affairs provides student support and leadership to mitigate and eliminate barriers to educational success for students of color at Grand Valley State University with a specific focus on initiatives supporting Latinx, Hispanic, and Undocumented/DACA students.

Required Qualifications and Education:
• Bachelor’s degree
• Master’s degree in Higher Education/Student Affairs, Social Work, Sociology or other relevant field
• Strong understanding of social justice and how it connects to higher education
• Strong public speaking skills, cross-cultural interpersonal skills, and effective writing skills

Preferred Qualifications and Education:
• Demonstrated lived commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion on the basis of race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, socioeconomic background, ability/disability, religious, spiritual, and/or secular identities or more.
• Familiarity with and/or experience building intersectional support structures for students of color
• Experience in higher education working with Latinx, Hispanic, and/or undocumented/DACA students
• Experience developing, administering, and evaluating student programming and events
• Ability to manage multiple projects independently and working toward shared team goals
• Experience working in higher education student services supporting students at greater risk of stopping short of degree
• Experience delivering diversity, equity, and inclusion education, workshops, and trainings
• Bilingual in Spanish

Responsibilities – Essential Functions:
• Provide student support and leadership within the Office of Multicultural Affairs and collaborate with campus partners to further divisional and university goals
• Develop, plan, execute, assess and provide overall leadership for Laker Familia Orientation and Laker Familia yearlong efforts, Hispanic Heritage month programming
• Oversee programs and initiatives that positively impact the recruitment and retention of diverse students with a focus on Latinx, Hispanic, and undocumented/DACA students
• Build relationships with and develop collaborative programming with student organizations and campus and community partners
• Meet one-on-one with students to provide support, advocacy, and referrals
• Track and assess program effectiveness and write year-end reports that assess outcomes
• Co-supervise and support student employees and graduate assistant as assigned
• Cultivate an inclusive, affirming, and equitable environment in Office of Multicultural Affairs
• Assist with goal setting and strategic planning for the office
• Support Office of Multicultural Affairs communication efforts including: website management, social media, marketing, etc.
• Serve as the University contact for undocumented/DACA students and lead university-wide support efforts
• Serve on University committees and initiatives
• Other duties as assigned
