Program Director and Asst/Assoc Prof
Description: Charleston Southern University seeks applicants for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor of Counselor Education for Fall 2021. This candidate will also fill the role of Program Director for the Master of Science in Clinical Counseling Program. Ideal applicants have a passion for teaching future counselors and can relate their experience within the clinical field to students. New hire would be part of the core clinical faculty per CACREP accreditation requirements.

Qualifications: A doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision from a CACREP-accredited program. A desire to integration faith with counselor education. Administrative experience in and oversight of a counseling program. Identification with the counseling profession through membership in professional organizations (i.e., ACA, ACES, and/or its divisions). Knowledge of principles, methods, and current developments in the counselor education. Experience with instructional strategies and techniques appropriate to teaching the courses assigned (graduate, adult learners, in person/hybrid, etc.). A believer of the Christian faith and share CSU’s mission of integrative faith in learning, leading, and serving. Experience in teaching and clinical supervision of counselors-in-training. Evidence of scholarly activities related to clinical counseling and counseling training. Candidates should be eligible for licensure as a Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of South Carolina, and if hired, must complete licensure application prior to position start date.

Responsibilities: Teaching 18 semester hours of counseling classes, including didactic and clinical classes (one course release per semester for director role). As program director, this 10-month position involves strategic leadership and day-to-day oversight of the Master of Science in Clinical Counseling program, with teaching and advising at the master’s level. The Program Director’s responsibilities include:(1) supervision of MS degree program, (2) oversight of admissions process, (3) academic advisement, (4) teaching, and (5) oversight of CACREP accreditation requirements in coordination with the CACREP Liaison, (6) being one third of the CACREP Core faculty who are involved in decision making and program management. Successful candidates should demonstrate strong administrative and interpersonal skills; a collaborative style, the ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, collaborate, and develop partnerships with public and private entities; and experience with accreditation approval processes. Willingness to teach some summer courses is preferred.

Successful candidate would be an integral part of a team of three Core Faculty per CACREP accreditation requirements. Core faculty make decisions as team on all of the following:

Advising duties
Admission decisions
Remediation plans/student behavior/discipline issues
Orient and manage adjuncts to program needs
Develop program objectives
Provide supervision to counseling students in teaching clinical courses
Review program evaluations/determine plans for adjusting program progress
Major responsibilities include:

Teach graduate face to face and hybrid counseling courses
Serve as mentor and academic advisor to students
Engaging curriculum development, including student practicum and internship
Teach clinical classes as needed and provide student supervision
Participate in student recruitment and interviews
Engage in scholarship and professional development in ways that make a unique contribution to the department
Significant involvement in tasks related to CACREP accreditation
Participating in appropriate program, school, and university activities such as program information sessions, admissions processes, and workshops
Assist in occasional school and university recruitment activities
