Position Summary:
Chemeketa seeks a student-focused, success-oriented individual to serve as the math instructional specialist. Chemeketa’s Tutoring Services promotes student success and retention through interactions with department-trained tutors who foster independent and resourceful learning. As the instructional specialist, you will recruit, hire, and train tutors; work directly with math students; and engage in department and college efforts to increase student success and retention. This position serves as the liaison to the math department to stay current on curriculum and relevant department changes, and ensures peer tutors are prepared to support math students across the college.

The successful candidate will have a successful academic record in math through calculus, experience tutoring or providing academic support to adult learners in math, practical experience developing and/or delivering training, and skills to build and maintain a network of contacts to support students and tutors..

Salary $3,473.00 - $5,308.00 Monthly


Associate’s degree from an accredited institution in Mathematics or related field with knowledge of applied mathematics
Two years of progressively responsible instructional field-related experience, including one year experience tutoring in the subject area


Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Mathematics or related field with knowledge of applied mathematics
Six months of experience tutoring in the subject area and successful completion of a nationally recognized tutor certification program (Level I or higher)


Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Mathematics or related field with knowledge of applied mathematics
One year experience tutoring in the subject area

All applicants must demonstrate “A” or “B” grade in Math courses through Calculus
Demonstrated experience with tutoring practices; Experience with evidence-based practice, adult learning theory and assisting students with disabilities

Preferred Qualifications
• Ability to tutor accounting
• Supervisory experience
• Demonstrated experience with online pedagogy
• Practical experience with current and emerging instructional technologies such as, learning management systems (e.g., Bb, Canvas), html/java, digital A/V production applications (Adobe Connect, Captivate, Camtasia, Excel, etc.)
• Knowledge and experience in the development of college-level, academic support programs, including Supplemental Instruction (SI), group tutoring, tutor training and certification, and design of learning object
• Ability to analyze situations accurately and implement effective problem-solving skill
• Experience with College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) tutor certification program
• Bilingual English/Spanish
