Assistant Project Scientist

The Project Scientist will lead a team effort in order to first implement the WEHY-HCM (Watershed Environmental Hydrology – Hydroclimate Model) over various Northern California watersheds by means of its calibration and validation over these watersheds. Accordingly, she/he shall lead and manage the effort for developing the necessary land, atmospheric and hydrologic databases for the WEHY-HCM by the ArcGIS geographic information system. Then she/he shall lead and manage the effort to calibrate and validate the WEHY-HCM over the target Northern California watersheds by means of the developed databases. Once calibrated and validated, the WEHY-HCM will then be utilized for the simulation of coupled hydrologic-atmospheric processes over the target watersheds. This effort will again be led and managed by the hired Project Scientist. The WEHY-HCM is written in the FORTRAN language and operates within the LINUX/UNIX environment.

The Project Scientist will also be required to lead documentation efforts and will be responsible for developing appropriate reporting materials to funders, and authoring peer-reviewed publications based on this research.

Basic qualifications include a PhD in Civil Engineering with specialization in Water Resources Engineering with documented (by means of published papers) experience and capability on numerical hydro-climate modeling by means of the WEHY-HCM. Also, capability and experience with ArcGIS modeling and with manipulating large hydrologic-atmospheric-land databases within a LINUX/UNIX environment is required.
Additional qualifications: Proficiency in programming languages such as Fortran, Python, and Bash; ability to successfully work in a team environment.
Requirements: Salary will be commensurate with qualifications. To ensure consideration, submit curriculum vitae, three references, via the web-based, online submission system at https://recruit.ucdavis.edu/JPF04322.
