FIU’s Robert Stempel College of Public Health & Social Work’s mission is to inspire groundbreaking research and education through a nurturing academic environment that influences policy and promotes healthy lives in communities near and far. Stempel College is accepting applications for a dynamic, student-centered Assistant Dean for the Office of Student & Alumni Affairs. The Assistant Dean will provide leadership and oversight in the following areas: recruitment and strategic enrollment, student success and student-centered metrics, student development, and alumni engagement.


Duties and Responsibilities

Fosters a student-centered, solutions-oriented environment in OSAA that is welcoming of all students and constituents of Stempel College and the university. Provides leadership in ensuring that the office serves as a resource for faculty, staff, and students of Stempel College. Supervises the OSSA staff members and responsible for the administration of the office. Demonstrates commitment to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Serves as the Dean’s designee and first point of contact for all student-related matters.

Serves as the college’s advising lead, providing leadership and support to the college’s academic advisors, while ensuring that the college’s efforts are aligned with those of the university’s central office.

Provides leadership, vision, and daily administration of the college’s metrics-based student success initiatives, collaborating closely with the units to develop and implement interventions to help improve the college’s performance metrics in retention, progression, graduation, academic success, and employment.
Leads student development efforts to help increase student engagement, leadership, and sense of belonging with the college, the university, and the local community.

Provides vision, leadership and daily administration of all college-specific recruitment efforts being coordinated centrally, collaborating with the central admissions and recruitment offices to better leverage resources and recruitment funds. Leads the college’s communication efforts with Stempel College prospective and current students, serving as a communication liaison for the college’s units, while developing and scheduling timely communications with students that address student engagement opportunities and milestones.

Leads all student-based data collection efforts for the college. Monitors and analyzes college reports and data as they relate to accreditation, student success metrics (strategic enrollment, retention, time-to-degree, and graduation), and graduate outcomes.

Leads college-wide alumni efforts, which includes organizing focus groups and networking events, as well as on-campus programming to help increase student-alumni interactions and to further strengthen alumni engagement with the college.

Job Requirements and Qualifications:

PhD degree in Higher Education Administration or other related discipline.
Minimum of six years of relevant experience in student affairs. 
Strong professional background with an understanding of best-practices and policies in student and alumni affairs.
Track record in providing support and opportunities for students.  
Experience developing strategic plans, establishing priorities and goals, and ensuring measurement and achievement of goals. 
Experience managing teams and building a climate of success. 
Strong analytical, data management, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. 
Superior verbal and written communication skills. 
Experience in effectively managing budgets and other resources. 
Demonstrated ability to marshal resources to ensure achievement of goals. 
Excellent ability to work effectively with students, staff, and faculty from all levels of the university and from outside organizations. 
Strong organizational skills and an ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
Strong understanding of the educational value of a diverse community; a demonstrated track record of advancing equity and inclusiveness.
Ability to work with public health, social work, disaster management, and nutrition science related disciplines.
Proven crisis management capabilities.
