Director for Diversity and Inclusion
Reporting to the Vice President (VP) for Diversity and Inclusion in Academic Affairs, the Director of Diversity and Inclusion Learning & Engagement will provide a high level of critical knowledge, expertise, counsel, and leadership in three domains of diversity and inclusion at Berklee (i.e., education and learning, programming and community engagement, and institutional and strategic engagement). The Director will be instrumental in leading the development and implementation of professional development and learning spaces, initiatives, and resources to increase diversity and inclusion knowledge, skills, and capacity across the Berklee community, particularly among the faculty and staff. The Director will serve as a critical thought partner, collaborator, and liaison with colleagues across Berklee’s multiple learning environments engaged in initiatives related to diversity and inclusion learning and engagement. The Director will also provide valuable counsel, assistance, and support to the VP to help advance strategic institutional diversity and inclusion initiatives, priorities, and goals, including tasks related to Berklee's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Framework, Berklee’s Action Plan to Address Systemic Racism, and other campus climate initiatives. The Director will work in close collaboration with the staff on the Diversity and Inclusion team and will supervise an Assistant Director in Diversity and Inclusion.


Design, develop and deliver high impact diversity and inclusion professional development workshops, trainings, presentations, sessions, and resources/materials for those with varied levels of diversity and inclusion awareness, knowledge, and skills.
Collaborate and cultivate strong collegial relationships with colleagues and leaders in Faculty Development, Human Resources, Student Enrollment and Engagement, the Directors’ Council, and other academic and administrative departments to help coordinate and collaborate on diversity and inclusion initiatives, projects, programs, and events related to learning and engagement.
Develop and draft content for diversity and inclusion-related resources and communications including reports, articles, material for inclusive practices toolkits, and other documents.
Triage and respond to inquiries (particularly faculty and staff-focused), including requests for professional development support, consultation on emerging issues, and general inquiries on diversity and inclusion initiatives, projects, and needs.
Provide leadership and coordination with the staff in diversity and inclusion to develop and implement diversity-related educational, programmatic, and strategic initiatives (e.g., artist residencies, grant program, signature programs).
Support the Vice President in critical tasks related to institutional diversity and inclusion initiatives.
Supervise the Assistant Director for Engagement and Programming
Serve as the Diversity and Inclusion Office’s representative/member on Berklee’s Directors’ Council.


Master’s degree in education or related field and experience required, Doctoral degree preferred.
At least five years of professional experience in higher education or a related field.


Possess significant diversity and inclusion knowledge, expertise, and experience in developing and facilitating diversity and inclusion-related professional development trainings and workshops to faculty and/or staff within a higher education or related context.
Have outstanding oral communication and writing skills (including facilitating meetings, presenting, and creating documents) for a wide variety of audiences and constituencies including faculty, staff, and leaders.
Have excellent interpersonal and leadership skills, including emotional intelligence, sensitivity and discretion, and demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and engage with those from and across diverse backgrounds, experiences, roles, perspectives, and different levels of diversity and inclusion awareness and knowledge.
Demonstrated capacity to collaborate effectively with others in developing and executing diversity and inclusion initiatives.
Strong organizational skills, including the ability to take initiative, work independently, and develop and execute plans, with a strong attention to detail, ability to manage multiple tasks and projects, and excellent reliability.
Demonstrated capacity and skills for analysis, planning, creative thinking, developing strategy, goal setting, and program development, implementation, and delivery.
Management and supervisory experience strongly preferred.
