Manager of Communications and Assessment
The Manager of Communications and Assessment provides a high level of communication support to the Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion. Utilizing expertise in diversity and inclusion-focused writing, reporting, and assessment for a wide range of audiences both internal and external to the Berklee community, this position plays a critical role in helping to communicate Berklee’s diversity and inclusion goals, progress, and journey through the use of quantitative and qualitative data, metrics, narrative, and stories from those in the Berklee community. The Manager will write and collaborate with institutional partners to compile information for and develop material for reports, articles, dashboards, speeches, statements, and presentations. This role works closely with colleagues in the Offices of Institutional Research and Assessment, Marketing and Communications, Human Resources, and other units to compile, synthesize, interpret, and disseminate diversity and inclusion related data and information. This role will also work with other offices and campus partners to help coordinate a cohesive approach to communicating about and sharing information related to diversity and inclusion at Berklee. The Manager reports to the Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion and works collaboratively with the members of the Diversity and Inclusion team, as well as collaborates with institutional partners to support ongoing and emerging needs reflected in institutional strategic diversity and inclusion efforts including Berklee’s DEI Framework, plan to address systemic racism, and other efforts to promote a more inclusive campus culture and climate.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Write and develop diversity and inclusion-focused reports, articles, speeches, statements, and presentations for a variety of internal and external audiences including campus leaders, faculty, staff, and students, as well as prospective students and employees, alumni, funders, and external agencies and groups.
Work closely with Institutional Research and Assessment, Marketing and Communications, Human Resources, and other units to compile, synthesize, analyze, interpret, and share diversity and inclusion data and information related to Berklee’s progress on Berklee’s strategic diversity and inclusion plans including Berklee’s DEI Framework, plan to address systemic racism, and other institutional efforts to promote a more diverse and inclusive campus culture and climate
Work closely with the Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion, Marketing and Communications, and other offices to craft regular, responsive, and strategic diversity and inclusion-focused communications and messages (e.g., during times of crisis, heightened awareness, and ongoing diversity and inclusion work).
Collaborate with Institutional Research and Assessment and other critical partners to develop, implement, interpret, and communicate results on diversity and inclusion-related surveys, assessments, and evaluations.
Provide content expertise on diversity and inclusion-related communications needs across Berklee for greater consistency and cohesion in using current and inclusive language and framing.
Work closely with members of the Diversity and Inclusion team, as well as other institutional partners to advance strategic diversity and inclusion work and initiatives.
Triage and respond to inquiries related to diversity and inclusion communications and reporting.

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s degree or equivalent professional experience preferred.
Minimum of 4 years of professional work required, within a higher ed setting preferred.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:

Significant experience in diversity and inclusion focused communication and writing (e.g., reports, articles, speeches, statements, presentations, etc.), preferably within higher education or related context.
Strong knowledge of diversity, inclusion, equity, and social justice issues and concepts.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and collegially with a wide range of constituents across the institution (e.g, diverse backgrounds, diverse identities, roles, and a range of knowledge and understanding of diversity and inclusion concepts and practices).
Excellent communication and writing skills for a wide variety of audiences and constituencies including students, faculty, and staff.
Experience in conducting evaluation/assessment/research, analyzing data, and writing reports.
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to manage multiple tasks and projects, and excellent reliability.
Knowledge of inclusive practice regarding diversity and inclusion communications, language.
Ability to synthesize multiple sources of data and information.
Knowledge of assessment methodologies and survey design preferred.
Possess qualities of flexibility and adaptability with the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with colleagues (team members, institutional partners).
Ideal applicants have knowledge of and experience with social media and web-based platforms.
