Asst Professor in Public Administration
The Master of Public Administration Program in the Department of Political Science at Texas Tech University invites applications for a tenure-track at the Assistant Professor level, to begin in the Fall of 2022.

As part of a university strategic initiative, the program is seeking applications from individuals who can contribute to research and scholarship in the areas of rural resilience and service provision in rural communities. While we welcome applicants with specialties in any rural-focused subfield, such as economic development, emergency management, and infrastructure and technology, our preference is given to those who have expertise in healthcare service provision in rural areas. Applicants are expected to collaborate with researchers in the department as well as in the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center to develop research projects on rural health.

The successful applicant will be able to contribute to the department’s in-person and online teaching needs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Applicants must possess the ability to teach core and elective courses in the MPA curriculum. The successful candidate must show evidence and/or promise of excellence in teaching and an active research agenda. Candidates who have very strong records of scholarship supported by extramural funding and who have the proven capacity or clear potential to bring externally sponsored research to Texas Tech University are encouraged to apply. A Ph.D. in Public Administration (or a closely related discipline) is required by the time of the appointment. Responsibilities of the position include maintaining a solid research program leading to high quality publications in appropriate peer-reviewed outlets, teaching MPA and undergraduate public administration courses, mentoring MPA students and participating in services. Experience working with diverse student populations and first-generation students is highly desirable. Service duties include program-building, as well as commitment to extra-curricular activities. Service to the department, college, and university is expected.

The Department of Political Science offers the B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. degrees in addition to the MPA. And the Department is home to one of the four campuses with USGS-funded South Central Climate Science Center and works closely with other research institutes on campus such as the National Wind Institute and the Department of Public Health in the TTU Health Sciences Center. The Center for Public Service housed within the department provides support for research activities that are aligned with the purposes of the center. The MPA program at Texas Tech University is NASPAA accredited, and the faculty in the Department receive substantial financial resources for research support and conference travel. Texas Tech University is Tier One Carnegie Research Institution and has over 40,000 students in undergraduate and graduate programs that include Arts, Sciences, Medicine, Law, Engineering, Media and Communications, and Agricultural Sciences. Lubbock is a growing city of over 250,000 and is the commercial, medical, financial and cultural hub of the South Plains.
